MONTREAL -- Public health authorities in Quebec are reporting more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours as both new cases and hospitalizations continue to surge.

Authorities announced that 1,052 more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours for a total of 76,273, the largest single-day increase since May 3.

The number of hospitalizations in the province increased by 27 from Thursday to Friday, and there are now 302 people receiving care in the province's hospitals for COVID-19. Of those, three more people are in the intensive care ward for a total of 49.

There were seven new deaths added to the total. Officials say six of them occurred between Sept. 25 and Sept. 30 and one death occurred before Sept. 25, bringing the total to 5,857. No new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Quebec reports that 539 more people have recovered from the disease and the total number of recoveries is now 63,683...

MONTREAL -- Public health authorities announced another record high Monday as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge in Quebec: 1,191 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. That's the highest single-day total since the beginning of the pandemic.

That brings the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 79,650. Monday's new cases are the fourth in a row over 1,000 and come two days after it set its last record-high of 1,107 new cases on Saturday.

The highest case increases were reported in Montreal with 329 new cases (35,496 total), Quebec City with 265 new cases (5,059 total) and Laval with 173 new cases (7,681 total).

Quebec also revealed that six more people have died due to COVID-19, for a total of 5,884 since the start of the pandemic. Two of those deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, three occurred between Sept. 28 and Oct. 3 and another occurred at an unknown date.

The number of hospitalizations continues to rise with authorities reporting that 27 more people are being treated in the province's hospitals as of Monday for a total of 361. Of those, 62 people are in the intensive care ward, a decrease of two.

MONTREAL -- Quebec health authorities reported 1,364 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, beating the province's single-day record for the second day in a row and bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic above 80,000.

There have now been 81,014 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Quebec since the pandemic began.

The province is also reporting 17 more deaths linked to the disease, three of which occurred in the past 24 hours. Nine more are from between Sept. 29 and Oct. 4, one is from before Sept. 29, and four are from an unkown date. Two deaths are being retracted from the total because health officials have found them attributable to reasons other than COVID-19. The total number of deaths in the province now stands at 5,899.

Hospitalizations in the province increased by 36 from Monday to Tuesday, bringing the total number of patients receiving care in Quebec hospitals to 397. Of those in hospital, 67 are in intensive care, which is an increase of five from the number reported 24 hours earlier....

MONTREAL -- Quebec's premier is repeating a refrain by the health minister in recent days as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to worry officials.

"My message is clear and simple today. Please stay home," said Francois Legault in an afternoon press briefing. "You can go to school or to work but otherwise, please stay home."

Quebec health authorities reported 900 new cases of COVID-19 in the province on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 81,914.

About a quarter of Quebecers will not completely adhere to stay-at-home orders: survey

Wednesday's update is the first time the province has reported fewer than 1,000 cases of the diseases in a week.

The province is also reporting seven more deaths linked to the disease. One of them took place in the past 24 hours, four are from between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5 and two are from an unknown date, for a total of 5,906 since the start of the pandemic.

Two of the latest deaths took place in Bas Saint Laurent, two in Quebec City, two in Gaspe and one Chaudiere-Appalaches.

As of Wednesday, there are 409 people receiving care for COVID-19 in Quebec hospitals, which is an increase in 12 from the number reported on Tuesday. Of them, 62 are in the intensive care ward, which is five less than the number reported 24 hours earlier...

MONTREAL -- Quebec reported another drop in new COVID-19 cases on Monday, with 843 new cases of the virus.

However, the province's deaths jumped by 12 after several deaths from last week were counted belatedly.

Four people died of the virus in the last 24 hours, the province said in its daily update Monday. But it also added eight previous deaths that occurred between Oct. 5 and Oct. 10, which weren't counted at the time.

The new numbers bring Quebec to a total count of people infected over the course of the pandemic to 86,976, and its total deaths to 5,965.

The number of hospitalizations increased by 20, bringing the cumulative total to 457. And three more people are in intensive care, for a total of 75...

Quebec raises coronavirus alert level for more regions as province reports 815 new cases

Quebec is expanding its red zone designation to the Mont?r?gie, Centre-du-Qu?bec and Capitale-Nationale areas as the novel coronavirus takes hold in different regions, the province’s premier announced Tuesday.

Fran?ois Legault said the tightened restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19 will come into effect for those areas on Friday. The highest alert level is already in place in the province’s largest cities, including Montreal.

“There’s no magic recipe,” he told reporters in Montreal. “We have to reduce our contacts.”

The province reported 815 new infections Tuesday, bringing its caseload to 87,791. It is the lowest daily number of new cases since the end of September...

MONTREAL -- Quebec's red-zone measures for the month of October already appear to be working, according to Health Minister Christian Dube.

He made the announcement during a news conference on Friday alongside public health director Dr. Horacio Arruda, in reference to a recent study by the province's public health institute.

MONTREAL -- Quebec broke another record for new COVID-19 positive cases Saturday, as public health authorities reported that 1,279 more people tested positive in the past 24 hours.

The previous high mark was Oct. 2, when 1,161 people tested positive.

Quebec originally reported 1,364 new cases Oct. 6, but the provincial public health insitute retroactively adjusted that number to 997.

The new cases bring the total number of positive novel coronavirus cases in the province to 92,297 since the start of the pandemic.

In addition, the province announced that six more people have died due to the disease since Friday, in addition to eight people who died between Oct. 10 and Oct. 15, and one person who died at an unknown date. The province also subtracted one death from the total number of deaths after an investigation found it was not attributable to COVID-19.

Three deaths were reported in Laval (704 total) and the Monteregie (658 total), two deaths were reported in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (29 total), Chaudiere-Appalaches (43 total) and the Laurentians (291 total), and one in Montreal (3,507 total) and the Gaspe (22 total).

Since the start of the pandemic, 6,032 people have died in the province due to COVID-19.

Montreal with 291 new cases (38,968 total), Monteregie with 194 new cases (13,478 total), Quebec City with 185 new cases (6,917), and Mauricie-et-Centre-du-Quebec with 129 new cases (3,397 total) saw the highest increase in cases...

Quebec reports 877 new coronavirus cases as hospitalizations jump

Quebec is reporting an increase of 877 novel coronavirus infections and an uptick in hospitalizations on Tuesday.

However, Quebec’s Health Ministry noted that while there are more than 800 new infections, 90 cases have been retracted from the total — bringing the caseload to 95,216.

“The 90 cases will be withdrawn gradually depending on the date the cases have been confirmed,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The province continues to have the highest tally of cases in Canada, which has topped 200,000 infections as of this week.

On Tuesday, 12 additional deaths were recorded. Of them, five occurred in the last 24-hour period, while the other deaths were added to the tally retroactively...

MONTREAL -- Quebec health authorities reported 1,072 more cases of COVID-19 in the province on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 96,288.

Officials also reported 19 more deaths linked to the disease, including two from the past 24 hours, 15 from sometime between Oct. 14 and 19 and two from before Oct. 14 for a total of 6,074.

The City of Montreal once again reported the highest number of new cases across Quebec, with 223 (total 39,935), followed by Monteregie, with 212 (total 14,086) and Quebec City, with 190 (total 7,697).

Hospitalizations in the province did not increase from Tuesday to Wednesday, meaning there are still 565 people being treated for COVID-19 at hospitals across the province. Of them, 94 are in the intensive care ward, which is a decrease of six from the number reported on Tuesday...

MONTREAL -- As Quebec continues to report about 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 per day, Quebecers who are able to work from home should be working from home, the provincial government says.

Premier Francois Legault made the announcement at a news conference on Thursday alongside Health Minister Christian Dube and public health director Dr. Horacio Arruda.

"The Chambre de commerce de Montreal will not like me for saying this," Legault said, just two hours after Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante announced measures to help businesses in the city centre survive the pandemic. Before the second wave of the pandemic hit, Plante asked Montrealers to head back to their downtown offices.

“We need more people to work from home because (work is) a place where there are infections," Legault said. "All those who can work from home should.”

Legault stressed that the state of the COVID-19 pandemic remains worrisome in the province as Thursday's update saw 20 more people die from the disease.

"And when we say 20 deaths, these are not just statistics, these are real people," he said. “...All those who criticize or want to criticize the measures – well think about these 20 people who have died."...

MONTREAL -- Quebec public health authorities announced Saturday that the number of people who have died due to COVID-19 in Quebec increased by 26.

Authorities say five people died in the past 24 hours, in addition to one on an unknown date. In addition, 17 people died between Oct. 17-22, and three people died before Oct. 17.

Seven deaths were reported in the Quebec City region (285 total), six in Monteregie (683 total), five in Chaudiere Appalaches (54 total), four in the Laurentians (294 total), two in Lanaudiere (227 total), and one in Estrie (35 total) and Outaouais (38 total).

The total number of people who have died since the start of the pandemic is now 6,132.

Quebec also announced that 1,009 more people have tested positive for the disease in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 99,235...

MONTREAL -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in Quebec surpassed 100,000 Sunday, as the province reported reported that 879 more people have tested positive in the past 24 hours.

The total number of positive cases in Quebec is now 100,114 since the start of the pandemic.

Authorities are reporting that five more people have died due to the disease since Saturday. Additionally, five deaths occurred between Oct. 18 and Oct. 23, and one who died at an unknown date...

In Quebec, health authorities say there are 929 new cases and 17 additional deaths from the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.

Of those COVID-19 deaths, four occurred in the last 24 hours, while 13 occurred last week.

“We must continue our efforts to decrease the number of cases,” Health Minister Christian Dub? said on social media. “Together we will be able to break the wave.”

The province’s caseload stands at 102,814 and the death toll has reached 6,189. So far, there have been 87,638 recoveries...

MONTREAL -- Quebec reported 1,037 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, and 12 more deaths, one of which occurred in the last 24 hours.

That brings the provincial totals to 108,018 cases and 6,283 deaths. There are currently 9,337 active cases in Quebec.

Health officials say they are also withdrawing one death from their total because it was found not to be attributable to COVID-19. Among the 12 new deaths, one death occurred in the last 24 hours, eight took place between Oct. 26 and Oct. 31 and three occurred before Oct. 26.
