Quebec’s coronavirus death toll rises to 25

The novel coronavirus pandemic has claimed the lives of three more Quebecers, bringing the province’s fatalities to a total of 25.

Premier Fran?ois Legault announced on Monday that COVID-19 cases jumped to 3,430 — up 590 from previous day.

The illness has led to 235 hospitalizations and 78 individuals are in intensive care. While the virus is spreading, Legault stressed that the province is ready.

“Our health-care system is under control,” he said...

MONTREAL -- Quebec now has 4,611 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 33 deaths, Premier Francois Legault said in his daily news briefing on Wednesday.

The death toll is up two from the 31 announced on Tuesday, and cases are up by 449.

Of those that have tested positive, 307 are in hospital, 82 of which are in intensive care.

Legault said the government was able to free up 6,000 hospital beds in recent days, adding that officials don’t believe hospitalizations will reach that number at the peak of the pandemic...

MONTREAL -- Quebec Premier Francois Legault on Thursday called on provincial and local police forces to be "less tolerant" of gatherings and people not respecting physical-distancing guidelines.

Police forces should and will move from informing people of the province's public-health directives to enforcing them - including the issuing of tickets and fines that could run up to $6,000, Legault said...

...Health authorities also reported that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Quebec rose to 5,518, up 907 from the 4,611 reported 24 hours earlier.

Quebec has 6,101 cases and 61 deaths attributable to COVID-19. That is an increase of 25 deaths and includes those newly confirmed as caused by the virus. There are 429 people in hospital, including 122 in intensive care.
Montreal is the "epicentre" of the outbreak, with 2,837 cases.
Verdun Hospital has more than 30 cases among staff and patients.
Communities in Nunavik are under lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus.

Quebec has now recorded 6,101 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 61 people have died. That is 25 deaths more deaths than the province reported on Thursday.

That's up from the 61 deaths reported across the province Friday.

There are 6,997 cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday afternoon, according to Quebec public health figures, up 896 from the 6,101 cases reported 24 hours earlier.

Quebec has 19 new COVID-19 deaths as of Sunday, bringing the death toll to 94, and the province now counts nearly 8,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

On Sunday, premier Fran?ois Legault said as the number of cases and deaths continue to rise, the Quebec government will extend its shutdown of the province — which includes the closure of all non essential businesses, services and schools — until May 4. The shutdown was previously said to last until April 13.

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is at 7,944 on Sunday, which is an increase of 947 cases from Saturday. The province currently has 525 people hospitalized with the disease, including 154 in intensive care...

MONTREAL -- There are now 121 Quebecers who have died from COVID-19 and the number of confirmed cases in Quebec has hit 8,580, health authorities announced Monday.

That's an increase of 27 from the 94 deaths and up 636 from the 7,944 cases reported across the province 24 hours earlier.

There are 533 Quebecers being treated for COVID-19 in hospital as of Monday afternoon, health authorities reported, up only eight from Sunday; 164 of them are in intensive care, an increase of just 10 from the day before.

Quebec Premier Francois Legault said he was encouraged by the relatively few new hospitalizations, which he said may indicate a "light at the end of the tunnel."...

That's an increase of 29 from the 121 deaths reported Monday and up 760 from the 8,580 cases reported across the province 24 hours earlier.

There are 583 Quebecers being treated for COVID-19 in hospitals as of Tuesday afternoon, health authorities reported, up 50 from the 533 reported Monday; 164 of them are in intensive care, the same number reported the day before.

That's an increase of 25 from the 150 deaths reported Tuesday and up 691 from the 9,340 cases reported across the province 24 hours earlier.

There are 632 Quebecers being treated for COVID-19 in hospitals as of Wednesday afternoon, health authorities reported, up 49 from the 583 reported Monday; 181 of them are in intensive care, up 17 from the 164 reported the day before.

Quebec’s premier struck a cautiously optimistic tone as he announced the province is nearing the peak of the novel coronavirus pandemic as cases climbed to 11,677.

“What I want to say today is courage,” said Fran?ois Legault during his daily briefing on Friday. “Hope is there. Good days are coming.”

The province recorded 25 more deaths attributable to COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities to 241.

The illness has led to 733 hospitalizations and 186 people are in intensive care as of Friday, according to Legault...

That’s up 39 from the 289 deaths reported Saturday; COVID-19 cases in Quebec rose 554 from the 12,292 announced a day earlier.

There are 824 people being treated for COVID-19 in Quebec hospitals as of Sunday, up 46 from the 778 reported Saturday; of those in a hospital, 217 are in intensive care, up only six from the 211 reported 24 hours earlier.

MONTREAL -- Saying that all hands on deck are needd right now to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec's seniors' residences, Premier Francois Legault announced Tuesday that the province is easing restrictions on visiting those facilities.

As of Thursday, a single pre-existing primary caregiver - to be identified by administrators at individual CHSLDs, Quebec's long-term care residences for seniors - will be allowed to visit and care for a patient residing in one of the residences.

No one else other than those identified caregivers, CHSLD employees and healthcare workers will be allowed access to the seniors' homes, many of which have been sites of outbreaks and deaths related to COVID-19...

MONTREAL -- A total of 805 people have died of COVID-19 in Quebec as of Saturday, a spike in the number of 117 deaths from the 688 reported in the province the day before.

Confirmed cases in the province have now reached 17,521, an increase of 723 cases from Friday’s total of 16,798.

As of Saturday, 3,315 people have now recovered from the virus.

There are 1,130 people being treated for COVID-19 in Quebec hospitals as of Friday, up 54 from the 1,076 reported Friday; of those in hospital, 258 are in intensive care, a large increase -- of 51 cases -- from the 207 reported a day earlier...
