To create awareness about bird flu, the Punjab Government will air CDs containing spots on local television and radio channels.
This was decided at the meeting of a high-level panel set up by state Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister, Gulzar Singh Ranike.
Head of the panel, S C Agrawal, Financial Commissioner, Animal Husbandry, said that services of the electronic media would be used to sensitise the general public, especially those dealing with poultry trade, to different aspects of avian influenza.
Agrawal called upon the department to step up surveillance and monitoring, especially in border districts.
B S Sidhu, Director, Animal Husbandry said regular clinical surveillance for bird flu was being conducted by field staff throughout the state and there has been no report of any unusual mortality of birds so far.
He said that reports for the same were being sought from different districts weekly and forwarded to the Centre for a close watch on the situation. Veterinary officers and pharmacists are being imparted training and Deputy Directors have been directed to be in touch with respective Deputy Commissioners. Besides, district-level action plans have also been made to meet any eventuality, he said. :tiphat:
