The death toll of swine flu patients has reached four as two more deaths have been reported till today.
A 35-year-old woman from Mehraj village in the district was cremated under the supervision of health teams from the district as well as from Ludhiana, where she was undergoing treatment for the last few days. The second death has been of a man from Talwandi Sabo.

Chandigarh: Seven more people have succumbed to swine flu virus in Punjab in the last four days taking the death toll from the disease to 31.

"The death toll due to swine flu in Punjab during the current season has risen to 31," State Nodal Officer for Swine Flu (Punjab) Gagandeep Singh Grover said today.

The patients who have died because of the virus over the past three weeks belonged to Bathinda, Muktsar, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Moga and Mansa. Till January 20, swine flu had claimed four lives in the state.

In neighbouring Haryana, the number of casualties due to the infection has been four and a total of 24 positive cases of H1N1 virus have been reported till yesterday.

"Four persons including three women have died because of swine flu," said Dr Aprajita Sondh, State Surveillance Officer (IDSP), Haryana.

Harminder Kumar (32) from Longowal village, who was under treatment for swine flu at the DMC Hospital, Ludhiana, died last night. He is the third victim of the disease from Sangrur district. Earlier, on February 16, Ashu Singla (47) of Lehragaga and one-year-old Prabhdeep Singh of Khurana village (near Sangrur) died of swine flu in Fortis Hospital, Mohali, and PGIMER, Chandigarh, respectively.

Swine flu has claimed one more life in the city. A woman from Bathinda, who was under treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), died today. With her death, the swine flu toll in the city has reached 18.

The deceased was a 32-year-old woman from Bathinda. She was admitted to Satguru Partap Singh Hospital. This is the second swine flu death in two days. Yesterday, a 62-year-old man from Mansa died at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
