"Before being admitted to the Sassoon hospital on October 11, Aishwarya was treated at a private hospital in Urali Kanchan and later at a private hospital in Hadapsar. She was critical at the time of admission and put on a ventilator. She had developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)," said Mehta.

Jayshree Hanumant Waghmare (27), a resident of Rahuri, died on Tuesday. "She had delivered a baby through Caesarean section at Rahuri on September 1. She suffered a serious post-operative complication, following which she sustained suture wounds," said Rajshekhar Iyer, medical director of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). "She was moved to the YCM hospital on September 9 and developed a bilateral pneumonic patch, following which administration of Tamiflu was started. Her throat swab was also sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) the same day for testing. The report confirmed the presence of the H1N1 virus on September 11."
Waghmare's condition was critical and she was put on a ventilator from September 9 to 22. Her condition stabilised and she was taken off the ventilator on September 23. Her throat swab was again sent to NIV for testing, but she again tested positive on September 24. Her condition was stable between September 22 and October 9, but deteriorated from October 10 and she was again put on a ventilator. Her throat swab was sent for retesting and the report declared her negative on October 11. "However, she had developed septicemia, a serious life-threatening infection due to the post-operative non-healing wound associated with the H1N1 infection and died at 4.30 pm on Tuesday," said Iyer.

Meanwhile, according to Mehta, 11 people tested positive for the H1N1 virus on Tuesday. Around 6,501 people were screened across the district, of which 529 suspected patients were administered Tamiflu. Some 29,830 people have been given the drug so far.
