I have just been informed that at least 3 people on the street that I live on, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, have dengue.

One of them has the hemorragic kind.

There is nothing about this in the local news.

I just want to inform people.

Im sitting here with one of those mosquito killer contraptions that looks like a tennis racket, trying to electrocute the occasional mosquito that enters my house. My husband killed several yesterday. It's scary to live like this. I would love to live in a place that doesn't have dengue every wet season!

A few years ago there was a huge dengue epidemic here and there was nothing about it in the local papers. I can only assume that the local government doesn't want to scare tourists away. Tourist money is what
this whole town lives on.

I called the center for disease control in Atlanta, since they put out warnings, and told them about it, and they thanked me and then there was no warning from them. The hospitals were filled with locals who had dengue.

4 people on my immediate street having dengue is a lot. I hear no warnings about this either locally or in national Mex or USA papers.
HARD to get the word out.

I suppose there is some chance that only my street is affected??? :confused:

Dengue!

Local newspaper El Informador is reporting that the head of the Jalisco Department of Vectors and Zoonosis, Norma Jacobo Hern?ndez, said that there are 250 probable cases of Dengue fever in the state, with the majority in the municipality of Zapopan, where Shawn and I live. A related article says the number of cases in Zapopan could be as high as 77.

Puerto Vallarta has the next highest number of cases reported in the state, coming in with 16.

Dengue fever is spread by mosquitoes and is found in tropical locations. The state health services recently launched a public awareness campaign instructing citizens to eliminate any standing water that might collect in receptacles outdoors and to change water in flower vases every three days to remove any potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The government began a program of spraying earlier in the month, and it is recommending that people wear repellent even when inside their homes.
