PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Preparing for a possible pandemic.
On Tuesday, health care officials from Rhode Island hospital and Women and Infants participated in a mock training exercise at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence.
The reason, to help prepare them for an outbreak of any particular virus.
Health officials say that the H1N1 virus is still in the area but they don't know the path the virus will take.
With that in mind, Tuesday's training helped health care officials plan for the worse.
John O'Reilly, Director of Emergency Preparedness for Rhode Island hospital says, "our goal here was to measure our capabilities to operate outside the normal spectrum that we typically operate on."
"Our goal was to be able to activate an alternate care site and be able to administer health care, again off site of the hospital campus in the event of a wide spread emergency."
The Rhode Island Department of Health says there are 199 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in the state.
