Professor to discuss 1918-20 flu epidemic

James Higgins, history professor at Kutztown University, will share his research into the 1918-20 influenza epidemic in Pittsburgh in a free public lecture at 6 p.m. today in lecture room 5, Scaife Hall, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Oakland.
Based on work for his Ph.D. dissertation at Lehigh University, the talk is titled, "With Every Accompaniment of Ravage and Agony: Pittsburgh and the Influenza of 1918-1920." Mr. Higgins researched coroner's reports, newspaper accounts, archives, hospital records and military files and interviewed survivors to gather his study of the worst epidemic in the city's history.
