An outbreak of norovirus at a resort in western P.E.I. was not related to food or water at the hotel, says the chief public health officer.

Dr. Heather Morrison said it appears norovirus was brought into the Rodd Mill River Resort from the community. Twenty people fell ill with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea on the weekend of March 2.

"We already know that norovirus is circulating across P.E.I., with cases from one side of the Island to the other," said Morrison.

March and April are usually peak months for norovirus cases on P.E.I., Morrison said.
