Prepping Information for a Pandemic (circa 2006)

Starting in about 2005, there was a worldwide scare that Influenza H5N1, also known as bird flu, was going to cause a pandemic. At the time, there were a number of online forums established to help understand pandemics and allow people to share ideas about how to prepare for one.

Several of these forums included CurEvents, Flutracker, Fluwiki(e),Fluwiki 2, This Blue Marble, and FluTrackers. Of these, only Flutrackers.com is still active as you are reading here. Several of these domain registrations lapsed and were taken over by others. Hopefully, someday, someone will compile a history of these early disease tracking forums and the colorful characters that originated online disease tracking and pandemic preparation in the 21st century.

One of these people, gsgs, is a member here and has been participating in disease tracking here at FluTrackers since 2006. He copied more than 1900 threads from between 2005 and 2007 from the Fluwiki forum. These threads discuss information about a potential H5N1 pandemic but also have extensive information about home and family preparation for a pandemic circa 2006. Much of it is still relevant today if COVID-19 becomes a worldwide pandemic.
