Pregnant woman dies of swine flu

A pregnant woman succumbed to H1N1 infection at the Safdarjung Hospital on Sunday morning.
Anita Verma (24), who was eight months pregnant, is the second such victim of the virus.
“She suffered from acute respiratory distress at the time of admission and was immediately put on ventilator,” said Dr Anjan Prakash, additional nodal officer, Delhi government. “It was a case of delayed admission. The child had died in the womb.”
Even though the patient died in the Capital, the state health department will not be adding this death to the Capital’s H1N1 toll as Verma was a resident of Noida. Already, ten people have succumbed to the disease in Delhi.
On Sunday, 81 new H1N1 influenza cases were confirmed, of whom 44 are children. So far, 2,548 people have tested positive for swine flu in the city.
