DOVER, Delaware ? Public health officials say a 33-year-old pregnant woman with the flu died days after her child was delivered by emergency C-section.

Delaware Health and Social Services said Tuesday that the woman, who lived in Smyrna, had several underlying health conditions. Officials say she was in her second trimester and first sought medical treatment for an illness on Feb. 11.

Health officials say tests confirmed the woman was positive for influenza H1N1. The woman was hospitalized with severe respiratory distress on Feb. 16.

Officials say the woman's child was delivered Feb. 17. The woman died on Feb. 22.

The infant remains hospitalized.

Health officials say the woman's death is the third this season from the flu in Delaware.
