poultry production in 2006

Registered User
2001: 6.99e10kg
2004: 7.82e10kg
2005: 8.10e10kg of poultry produced
2006: 8.15e10kg of poultry produced

(8.38e10 expected assuming same increase as in 2005,

the difference of 2.3e9kg is assumed to be due to H5N1
loss:2.3e9kg or about $1e10 (assuming $4 (?) per kg poultry)

for 1kg of chicken-meat you need 1.8kg of poultry-food
for 1kg of pork you need 3kg of pig-food

EU loss could be about 2e9 Euro in 2006, I guess.

to compare:
EU-spendings for H5N1 research about 3e6 Euro per year !

and that's only for the poultry-loss. Add to that loss due to
pandemic preparedness and health risk, poultry indoors cost,...

Shouldn't we spend more on H5N1-research ?
