In the article Gemineye posted in the thread Air Industry Battles Ebola, there was this very interesting quote:

Royal Air Maroc said flights to Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia had become unprofitable because they were usually empty on the way out and full only on the way back.​

I think only Royal Air Maroc and Brussels Airlines have flights from the affected countries to destinations out of the continent. But apparently lots of people are interested in leaving West Africa.

Travelling to avoid illness or to get better treatment? That's not taking account of those who try and come over to Europe by land or by sea. There have been so many boats sank and people injured on barbed wires. Now joining them, there will be those carrying Ebola. Europe and the Middle East have been extremely lucky to date, but will it last?

This reminds me of the history of the Plague in the Middle Ages, where people were travelling everywhere to avoid the illness, and of villages fortified against external incursions. I do hope the US/CDC can handle this better and put a stop to any spread of this initial Liberia/US patient, otherwise the Middle Ages will come upon us once again, as they seemingly have already in Sierra Leone or Liberia.

The authorities must get a grip. Fast!
