Polish health officials have confirmed a rare case of cholera in an elderly woman from Stargard, a city in northwestern Poland.
Authorities say the patient has not traveled outside the country, raising concerns about local transmission, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
“A cholera bacterium has been detected in a patient from Stargard, and tests for the toxin are ongoing. Therefore, this is a person with suspected cholera,” national consultant for infectious diseases Professor Miłosz Parczewski said on Sunday....

The first case of cholera in Poland in the last six years has been recorded. The infection was detected in an elderly woman living in the city of Stargard, located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. This information was confirmed by Polish Radio.
It is important to note that the patient had not traveled outside the country, and the source of the infection remains unknown for now.
