Poland reports 2nd outbreak of H5N8 avian flu in Lubuskie province

On a turkey farm in Glinik in the municipality of Deszczno (Lubuskie) confirmed outbreak of the virus H5N8, the so-called. avian flu. Earlier this virus was detected in a goose farm in a few kilometers away Deszcznie - told PAP spokesman for the governor of Lubuskie Alexander Chmielińska-warm.

"In one of the farms in Glinik suspected occurrence of avian influenza virus. Yesterday sample transferred to Pulawy (the State Veterinary Institute - PAP).

Today, they handed us the results which confirm the occurrence of the virus H5N8. At the moment the test is the level of virulence" - told PAP spokesman. ​

She added that currently are implementing procedures to be followed in the event of an outbreak of the disease in birds.

The first outbreak of the virus H5N8 was confirmed on December 3 this year. u goose farm Deszcznie.The farm was approx. 700 pieces of geese.

Governor of Lubuskie Province issued a regulation, which sets a protection zone around the outbreak with a radius of approx. 3 km and a surveillance zone - around the fire with a radius of approx. 10 km.

The birds from the farm have been removed and disposed of, and the farm disinfected and quarantined. Other farms in areas covered surveillance, introduced other restrictions, including related to the sale and transport of poultry.

On the roads in the area covered by the contaminated zone and the danger was destroyed several mats disinfectant to prevent the spread of the virus.

According to the veterinary services in the 3-km zone of trapped air is 14 holdings in which there is a total of 236 thousand. geese and turkeys, and 10-km danger zone is 486 thousand. turkeys, ducks and chickens. In total, more than 44 farms is 722 thousand. poultry. Farm in Glinik is located in one of these zones.
