WARSAW, March 30 (Reuters) - Poland expects rapid growth in coronavirus infections, Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski said on Monday, as the country braces for new restrictions aimed at curbing the pandemic.

As of Monday, 1,984 people had tested positive for coronavirus in the country of 38 million, while 26 people had died, according to the health ministry.

"We are entering a new phase of the epidemic ... We are expecting a very rapid growth in the number of infections in the coming weeks. This number will be rising at an exponential pace," Szumowski told news conference.

Szumowski said further restrictions on people's movements were needed as earlier measures were not sufficient to contain the virus. He did not say what the new restrictions would be.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Poland has increased by 96 to reach 2,311, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday evening.The death toll has increased to 33.

The 33rd fatality was a man who was hospitalised in Warsaw.

The new infections, confirmed by positive laboratory tests, concerned patients in the Mazowieckie (57 persons), Śląskie (9), Dolnośląskie (7), Lubuskie (6), Opolskie (4), Świętokrzyskie (3), Wielkopolskie (3), Podkarpackie (2), Zachodniopomorskie (2), Pomorskie (2) and Lubelskie (1) provinces.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Poland has increased by 73 from Wednesday morning to reach 2,420, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday afternoon. The death toll has increased to 36.

One more person has died from the virus, a 51-year-old man in Tychy, southern Poland...

The Polish Ministry of Health said on Thursday that a total of 61,178 samples had so far been tested in Polish laboratories for coronavirus and that there had been 2,633 positive results.

Over 5,300 samples have been tested over the past 24 hours.

According to the ministry, forty-five people have died from coronavirus infection.

The first case of coronavirus infection in Poland was reported on March 4, with the patient already discharged from hospital in the western city of Zielona Gora.

Poland has imposed sweeping restrictions on public life to stop the spread of the virus, including closing schools, parks, forests and hotels and banning gatherings outside of more than two people, excluding families.

As of Saturday, it had reported 3,503 cases of the coronavirus and 73 deaths.

Duda criticized the European Commission in the interview for a lack of support over the pandemic.

"As a country we have not received any extra financial help from Brussels," he said.

WARSAW, April 6 (Reuters) - Poland is still at the beginning of its fight with the coronavirus, with the peak of infections expected in May and June, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday.

Speaking to the lower house of parliament, Morawiecki said Poland has some shortages of medical equipment. It plans to increase within days the number of daily coronavirus tests to 8,000-9,000 from the current 6,000-7,000, he said.

Poland has reported 4,201 coronavirus cases, including 98 deaths.

WARSAW, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Poland has reached the 5,000 mark, the country's health ministry said on Wednesday.
As of early Wednesday, the country recorded 5,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, with 136 deaths in total.
Tuesday saw 435 new COVID-19 cases, the second-largest daily increase in confirmed infections, and 22 new deaths from the virus, the largest daily increase.
The numbers in Poland kept rising exponentially even after the government placed additional restrictions on the country's residents earlier this week.

Poland’s Health Ministry announced that 268 new COVID-19 infections have been confirmed on Saturday evening, bringing the country’s total to 6,356 positive diagnoses.

The ministry also reported 13 new fatalities since the morning announcement. As a result, the current death toll of COVID-19 adds up to 208.

According to the ministry, the number of individuals hospitalised in Poland due to the coronavirus epidemic amounted to 2,426 on Saturday. A total of 166,973 people were quarantined and 31,370 were put under epidemiological surveillance, whereas 375 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the country so far.
