The hospital treating Poland’s first confirmed victim of the coronavirus is lacking in basic equipment such as masks, say staff. Nurses are reportedly threatening to stop working if they are not provided with proper protective clothing.

The government has only provided 7,000 zloty (€1,628) worth of supplies so far, comprising 400 masks and 40 sets of protective suits, a doctor at the hospital in Zielona G?ra told Gazeta Wyborcza on Friday. That is enough for just a few hours’ work, he claimed.

Instead, the hospital has had to rely on donations from private companies, reports the newspaper. It has also diverted funds from other parts of its budget, which has meant cutting back on some services, including closing down its laryngology and ophthalmology departments.

On Sunday evening, the Ministry of Health informed about three more confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Poland. In total, 11 coronavirus cases have already been reported across the country.

WARSAW (Reuters) - The Polish foreign ministry on Friday advised Poles to avoid unnecessary travel abroad due to the growing coronavirus outbreak but stopped short of issuing a ban as other countries in the region have done.

"As at the current stage of development of the coronavirus epidemic no place in the world is risk-free, and in some regions of the world the situation is changing in an unusually dynamic way," the statement ministry said in a statement.

"The foreign ministry calls for avoiding any foreign trips that aren't necessary."

Poland -- central Europe's biggest country -- has confirmed 68 cases of coronavirus so far with one death.

Poland is suspending all international flights and trains on Sunday, leaving many foreigners, including Canadians, struggling to find a way out of the country.

Several Canadians in the Polish city of Poznan, about 300 kilometres west of Warsaw, say they've been told the one remaining flight from Warsaw to Toronto is full.

Renata Kaniewski, of Ottawa, who travelled to Poland for her mother’s funeral, says the next available flight offered by LOT Polish Airlines is scheduled for March 29.

But she says there's no guarantee that flight will happen, as the Polish government has warned international flights could be suspended for longer.

"Right now I am worried about getting back to Canada, even with a new flight ticket for Mar. 29, because the government here in Poland keeps saying the international flights could be delayed even longer, she said.

"And the news on TV here says nothing about how foreigners can get back home. They only talk about how Poland is planning to get its own people back into the country."

Poland has reported nearly 100 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, including two deaths.

Government in quarantine in Poland

In Poland, the entire government has been quarantined by a minister for coronavirus infection.
All government members who attended the last cabinet meeting had had a coronavirus test performed on Monday evening, Michal Dworczyk, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's office chief, said on Tuesday on state radio. The results would be expected later in the day.
The reason for the measure is a positive corona virus test by the country's environment minister. So far, Poland has reported 205 cases of infection and five corona deaths. The country has closed its borders to foreigners as well as schools and universities.:tiphat:https://www.bild.de/news/inland/news...=1584448483770

Poland introduced some of the earliest restrictions on Europe, despite a relatively low number of cases. The country shut its borders to foreign citizens on 15 March, and most flight and train connections were swiftly cancelled.

It has also closed schools, cinemas and theatres and had already introduced a “state of epidemic” which recommended people to stay at home. Poland currently has 774 confirmed cases of coronavirus and nine deaths.
