The first case of SARS-CoV-2 infection in mink has been registered in Poland, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced on Sunday. The virus was diagnosed on a farm in the province. Pomeranian Voivodeship in the Kartuzy County.

It was noted that the Veterinary Inspection had simultaneously commenced activities aimed at securing the farm. Also, "administrative measures to eliminate animals" were initiated, which - as we read - have become a dangerous reservoir and vector of SARS-CoV-2 for humans.

It was written that in order to minimize the risks to health and life, the instructions of the ordinances of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of December 15, 2020 on the control of SARS-CoV-2 infection in mink and of December 2, 2020 on the determination of an infectious disease in animals were implemented subject to compulsory control (SARS-CoV-2 in mink).

Ministry of Agriculture: more mink infected with coronavirus

Further positive results of tests for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 were obtained in mink from a farm in the Kartuzy district, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported on Thursday, citing information from the National Veterinary Institute - PIB in Puławy.

"The State Veterinary Institute - National Research Institute in Puławy informed about further positive results in mink for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 from a farm in the Kartuzy district. Test samples collected by the Veterinary Inspection were from subsequent mink from a liquidated outbreak, detected as a result of official controls" - wrote in the ministry's press release.

Minister Puda: mink infections were detected with coexisting human infection

In the 18 farms tested so far, one of them has been diagnosed with numerous mink infections along with coexisting human infection, head of the Ministry of Agriculture Grzegorz Puda told PAP. He added that the research was carried out in the name of the overriding goal of protecting public health.
