Lubuskie province / third outbreak of avian flu confirmed
In podgorzowskiej municipality Deszczno in Lubuskie on a farm in the village Białobłocie was confirmed on Thursday, the third outbreak of avian flu. This time, the virus subtype H5N8 was detected in samples taken from geese - he told PAP spokesman for the governor of Lubuskie Alexander Chmielińska.​


Earlier, two outbreaks of the disease have been diagnosed birds on farms in Deszcznie and Glinik.

State Veterinary Institute in Pulawy confirmed that it is the same virus as the other two fires. On the farm is located approx. 1000 geese. The liquidation of the fire will begin today in the evening, after the completion of the liquidation turkey farm in Glinik "- told PAP spokesman.

More domestic birds with avian flu in western Poland

A new outbreak of avian flu has been reported at a goose farm in western Poland, an official said on Thursday.


This marks the third outbreak of avian flu in Poland’s western Lubuskie province this year, according to a spokeswoman for the province governor.

The State Veterinary Institute has confirmed that the virus is the same as in two previous cases, Aleksandra Chmielińska-Ciepły told Polish news agency PAP. She added that there are about 1,000 geese on the farm.

Earlier this month, the H5 virus, commonly known as bird flu, was detected in geese and turkeys on two other farms in Lubuskie province.

As required by European Union law, the authorities have created a special protection zone and an outer surveillance zone around the affected farms to prevent the spread of the disease.

Other measures have included a cull of live birds on the farms.

The detected strain, H5N8, is not harmful to humans, officials say.

In early November, avian flu was detected in five wild ducks and a seagull found dead in a lake near Szczecin, north-western Poland.

4th outbreak in Lubuskie Province


H5N8 virus attacks in the eastern Poland

On Sunday evening (December 18), the Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed the occurrence of the fifth outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Poland. This time, the Carpathian mountains.

Bird flu does not forgive. Despite attempts by veterinary inspection activities on Sunday in the vicinity of Deszczna it appeared fourth outbreak in the infected area, in a herd of more than 36,000 turkeys.

What's worse, the same day GLW announced a new outbreak in the municipality of Przemysl (Podkarpackie Province). The farm, which stated the occurrence of H5N8 virus had a population of 72 various species of birds, including chickens and hens decorative, ducks and guinea fowl.
