Bird flu near Łomża. H5N1 was detected in the commune of Piątnica
16/05/2023 10:28
Five dead black-headed gulls were found to have cases of H5N1 avian influenza. Piątnica and Łomża were in the endangered area.
In the Narew valley, between Piątnica and Łomża, there are several dozen nests of this species. Cases of avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype were found in five dead animals.
The city of Łomża and the villages of Piątnica Włościańska and Piątnica Poduchowna will now be in the infected area. This will result in restrictions for poultry farmers. This includes closing poultry, securing feed and water against access by animals from the outside and the use of protective measures (including disinfecting mats) by persons having access to animals on farms. It will also not be possible to bring animals into and out of the farm, introduce wild birds to hunting grounds and organize hunting. Pigeon breeders will not be subject to restrictions.
