6 people are now admitted in hospital with pneumonia as a result of complications from the measles outbreak.

Director Public Health, Dr Timaima Tuiketei, confirms that a total of 23 people have been hospitalized as they are in a serious condition, however, 6 from the west have contracted pneumonia.

The World Health Organization which is assisting the Health Ministry has also raised concerns that parents are still not turning up to have their children vaccinated.

Tuiketei said this could be due to fears by parents that it may cause allergic reactions.

The total number of measles cases around the country now stands at 100 with 86 in the west, 14 in the central/eastern division and 1 in the north.
