While some specialists say it prevents any pneumonia in patients with influenza A, others deny
Pneumococcal vaccine causes controversy
Currently applies to individuals with risk factors, but there is a ruling on their use
The importance of implementing the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine before the pandemic causes controversy today.
This is recommended by some doctors, who argue that if the virus of influenza A H1N1 is less likely a complication of pneumococcal bronchopneumonia.
All doctors agree that their application does not serve to avoid contracting influenza A.
"There has been growing of living and dead patients at post mortem and none has been able to demonstrate the presence of this bacteria," said Maria Luisa Avila, Minister of Health.
But those who recommend the application of the vaccine say that regardless of these results, a pandemic known as Spanish flu occurred 1918, he left his teaching as important in situations such as we are.
There is a strong relationship between infection with influenza A H1N1 virus and superinfection by bacteria such as pneumococcus, said Arturo Abdelnour, pediatric immunologist Pediatric Care of the Institute of Costa Rica.
This was demonstrated in the pandemic of 1918, when the pneumococcus was responsible for approximately 50% of the deaths, added to respect the doctor.
"I was vaccinated, I took my family and if a patient asks me if I think I should do, I say yes," said the doctor.
"Patients who develop the disease from influenza A H1N1 virus have increased risk of pneumococcal infection, which increases the chances of death," he said on his part Urbina Javier Alvarez, president of the Association of Collegiate Specialist Neonatology.
While experts suggest its application, the Minister considers that in the case of influenza A is not important, because now the behavior is not in the last pandemic, where there were no antibiotics that currently exist or was known about the techniques isolation.
To protect against the pneumococcal CCSS applied the vaccine to people with risk factors.
"The asthma, morbid obesity, diabetes and hypertension, diseases that had killed some patients are risk factors but not for pneumococcal bacteria," explained the Minister.
Pharmacies in the Chavarr?a Desamparados and second avenue, the Champs pharmacy Pharmacy in Guadeloupe and El Alto in Jerusalem, the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine is exhausted and its price ranges between ? 9 ? 13 thousand and thousand.
"As with all medications, this can have side effects, including pain, redness and inflammation, which are the most common and usually mild, transient, reversible and without effect. Mild fever have been reported in approximately 2% of patients vaccinated, but disappears in the first 24 hours, "said Alexis Gutierrez's pneumologist Blanco Cervantes.
