Pretty hilarious since most of them use us as a source of information and NONE of them has ever donated a dime to us. Attached is a screen shot of Don McNeil's (New York Times) home page where he publicly recommends us, which he has done for many years.

Here is McClatchy papers recommending us for "more information" on all things bird flu in this 2008 article:

Too bad the story didn't list all of the companies that are using this service. I'll be more than happy to avoid their sites and stories.

It will be interesting to see how they stand on this issue an year from now. I'm of the opinion that forums, blogs, etc send them business, rather than take it away.

I see they are encoding stories which have the capability to send info back regarding where it's being used and who is reading it. Cut and paste won't even escape this scrutiny. I'll be watching to see how this concept is met on some of the other forums.

If there are some sources that we routinely use, maybe we should just get permission to post all or part of their articles and not have to worry about it.

The fee-for-aggregation model was used by Veratect, Inc. to track infectious disease outbreaks. It was not a successful enterprise (link). A lot of the information they pushed to their paying clients was available for free here at FluTrackers.

FluTrackers has never charged a fee to view the posts and threads here. All information posted at FluTrackers is available for free.

All the time put in here by the administrators, moderators, and posters is unpaid volunteer effort. There are no paid staff. The hard operating costs of the site (web hosting, backup, and server costs) are funded solely through donations. Donations are are always welcome (link).
