MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato: About 2,600 poultry ducks were depopulated in M'lang town, North Cotabato due to Avian influenza or bird flu, a municipal veterinarian said Wednesday, March 30.
M'lang Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) veterinarian Dr. Charles Boliver confirmed the culling of the poultry, which would amount to total damages of almost P500,000.
Boliver said MAO has taken blood samples of poultry ducks in eight villages for examination. The villages include New Antique, Bialong, Inas, Dungguan, Dugong, Buayan, Bagontapay and Dalipe.
Boliver also said the agriculture office will take blood samples from the village of Lepaga and other nearby areas that are within the 1-kilometer radius of the origin of the disease in the town...
...Meanwhile, the local government of Tacurong City declared a state of calamity due to bird flu and extended cash and in-kind assistance to affected poultry farmers.
Allan Freno, Tacurong information officer, said one of the ways they are considering helping affected poultry owners is to provide live poultry for repopulation.
Freno said this is possible once the transmission of the disease is controlled and contained.
As of now, about 4,000 live poultry, including 2,000 ducks, have been culled in Tacurong City. The disease also affected 160 poultry farms in the villages of New Carmen, San Antonio, Kalandagan, Baras and Rajah Muda.
