DOH yet to declare diarrhea outbreak as cases rise to 1,027

The Department of Health in Iloilo said it has yet to declare an outbreak of diarrhea despite the 1,027 cases recorded in the province in the wake of the typhoon.

DOH records said out of the 1,027 cases, 500 patients came from the town of Mina.

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office, however, clarified that a diarrhea outbreak has not been declared.

The local DOH office advised local residents to keep their food and water clean as it distributed medicine to patients.

Cases of dermatitis, an inflammation of the skin causing itchiness and swelling, has also started to spread.

The DOH is also anticipating a possible increase in the number of cases of cough and fever among children.

Iloilo was among the hardest-hit areas in Western Visayas by typhoon Frank (international codename: Fengshen). It has been placed under a state of calamity.

The other provinces that have suffered due to the typhoon were Capiz, Aklan, Antique and Negros Occidental. John Mark Guda, AB-CBN Iloilo
