Dengue cases high in first quarter: DOH

THE Department of Health (DOH) in Davao region recorded an increase of 82 percent in dengue cases for the first three months this year compared to the same period last year..

According to the Department of Health-Update on Dengue Surveillance, the region has a total of 2,425 cases, with 24 deaths in just 12 weeks this year.

The figure showed a huge increase compared to the number of dengue cases for the first three months in 2010 with 1,331 cases and 13 deaths.

However, the DOH said the case fatality rate remained the same with 1.0 percent...

...According to a report from the DOH Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU), total of 2,332 dengue cases were admitted in NCR hospitals from January 1 to April 13, 2013.

The figure is 61 percent lower compared to the same period last year where 5,948 cases were recorded.

" There were 25 admissions for this week alone. Most dengue cases are from the cities of Quezon (452), Manila (378), Caloocan (260), Paranaque (150), Pasig (137), Pasay (131), Malabon (119) an Valenzuela (109). Affected ages are from 1 month to 77 years old. Most of those affected are from 15 to -49 years old at 43 percent. Majority or 54 percent were males," Janairo said...

DOH reports increase of dengue cases; 10 deaths this year

THE Department of Health (DOH 7) calls on local government units to intensify the information campaign on dengue as cases have increased by more than 100 percent compared to last year.

The Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (Resu) has recorded 4,482 dengue cases and 10 deaths from January 1 to April 13, 2013, which is 105.8 percent higher compared to the same period last year.

Last year, the Resu recorded 2,177 dengue cases and 18 deaths from disease reporting units in Central Visayas.

Cebu dengue cases rise

CEBU CITY ? The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) on Friday revealed that cases of dengue have increased from January to April this year to 723, nearly 20 percent higher compared with the number cases during the same period of last year.

At least two patients have died during the first quarter of the year, said the city's CHD, and the number of cases are expected to increase after the summer season.

Barangay Talamban now leads the list of infected areas with 47 cases following by barangay Guadalupe with 44 cases. For years, Guadalupe, the biggest barangay in Cebu City, was always on top of the list...

MANILA, Philippines -- Three children in Cabanatuan, Iloilo died due to dengue fever, authorities said Thursday.

The children were aged between four and six years old.

Since the start of the year until May 4, the provincial health office has recorded 743 dengue cases in Iloilo.

Six of the 743 died.

The number of dengue cases recorded this year is up by 183 percent compared to the same period in 2012...

At least six people in Iloilo have succumbed to dengue so far this year, provincial health authorities said.

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office's Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit also noted a whopping 178-percent rise in cases from Jan. 1 to May 11, the Daily Guardian reported.

It noted three fatalities from Cabatuan town, and one fatality each from Banate, Estancia, and New Lucena towns.

DENGUE fever claimed the life of a six-year-old boy from Barangay Tangub
last week, Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the Bacolod City Health Office, reported.

Tan said the total cases of dengue from January 1 to May 15 this year had increased ?- 726 cases compared to 68 last year covering the same period.

DOH reports increasing dengue cases in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, May 23 (PIA) --The Department of Health (DOH) Region 2 has recorded 1,238 dengue fever cases with two deaths from January 1 ? May 11, 2013, an increase of three percent compared to last year of the same period.

DOH Information Officer Alan Sibal said that last year, there were only 1,205 cases recorded but on the deaths due to dengue, there is a 67 percent decrease.

In a DOH report, Cagayan is the most at risk with 779 cases, followed by Isabela with 379 including the two deaths, Nueva Vizcaya with 65, and Quirino with 15. Batanes province remains to be dengue-free...

The television report noted that from January to May 4, 2013, there had been 149 recorded deaths due to the mosquito-inflicted disease, lower compared to the 211 deaths posted in the same period last year.

Dengue kills 5 in Kidapawan

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Five villages here are considered "dengue hotspots" after they recorded high incidence of the disease from January until May this year, data from the City Health Office showed.

These areas included Barangays Poblacion, Singao, Kalasuyan, Lanao, and Balindog.

Data showed that Poblacion recorded 95 dengue cases; Singao, 31; Balindog, 17; Lanao, 17; and Kalasuyan, 10.

Dr. Ted Calica, assistant city health officer, said the city recorded 277 dengue cases from January until May 31. Of the number, five died, mostly children aged 4 to 10.

Dengue toll rises; kills 5 (Bohol)

Dengue has claimed 31 lives as of June 4, 2013 in Region 11, according to Department of Health (DOH) Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) 11 report.
DOH 11 regional epidemiology surveillance unit head Cleo Fe Tabada said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw SM Annex, Ecoland yesterday said that dengue cases in the region rose to 4,916 from January to June 04, 2013 or an increase of 63.05 percent from 3,015 cases recorded during over the same period last year.

Dengue cases up 552%

THE number of dengue cases in the province has increased by 552 percent from January to June this year compared to the same period last year.

Based on the record of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), this year's dengue cases already reached 1,538 with two deaths.

Those who died of dengue were reported in Sagay City and Bago City.

DOH: 42,207 dengue cases, 193 deaths from January to 1st week of June

At least 42,207 dengue cases, 193 of them fatal, had been recorded from January to the first week of June this year, even as the Department of Health pushed for the "basics" of early prevention and community action.

The DOH's National Epidemiology Center said the total figure represents a one-percent decline, or 456 fewer cases, compared to the same period in 2012.

A breakdown of data showed that most of the dengue cases from Jan. 1 to June 8 were recorded in:

- Central Visayas (6,023 cases, 51-percent increase)
- Calabarzon (4,742, 17-percent decrease)
- Davao Region (4,364, 30-percent increase)
- Western Visayas (4,444, 102-percent increase)
- SOCCKSARGEN (3,963, 126-percent increase).

DOH: Fewer leptospirosis, dengue cases this year

THE Department of Health has reported fewer dengue and leptospirosis cases from January to June this year, compared to the same period last year.

Based on the report from the DoH-National Epidemiology Center, dengue cases from January 1 to June 15 numbered 45,037, 2.8 percent lower than last year?s 46,336 cases, while a total of 498 leptospirosis cases were reported, 75.61 percent lower compared to the number of cases from the same period last year.

The DoH said there were 204 deaths due to dengue and 40 people died from leptospirosis.

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 5 (PIA) -- The rainy season has contributed in the increase of dengue cases in the region.

The Department of Health has reported that while dengue is endemic in the region, the number of cases increases during the rainy season.

Boyd Cerro, DOH regional sentinel nurse, revealed that this year?s dengue cases recorded from February to early June is 1,740 from 118 of the region?s 143 cities and municipalities. Record of the health department shows that of the 1,740 cases admitted in hospitals, 968 were in Leyte; 288 in Northern Samar; 204 in Eastern Samar; 186 in Samar; 60 in Southern Leyte; and 34 in Biliran...

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY ? Health authorities alerted residents against dengue disease that claimed five lives and registered 921 cases in Bukidnon.

The provincial health office (PHO) of Bukidnon and the City Health Offices (CHO?s) in Malaybalay and Valencia raised the dengue alarm due to a sharp increase in dengue cases since early this year.

Surveillance report of the Provincial Health Office recorded 921 dengue cases with five deaths from January to June alone. This is 268 percent higher than the 250 cases posted in the same period last year...
