7.3-magnitude quake hits northern Luzon

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 27) — A magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit Lagangilang, Abra at 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, prompting residents and workers in Luzon to quickly evacuate to safer ground.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) recorded Intensity 4 shaking in Quezon City, but residents in Metro Manila and nearby provinces also reported strong shaking in their area that lasted for several seconds.

Residents in Cordillera also reported landslides and cracks on the road.

Phivolcs warned the public that aftershocks and damage can be expected following the major earthquake...
