10-month-old baby Iloilo’s first case of German measles in 2024

​ILOILO – A 10-month-old baby girl has been confirmed as the first case of German measles, also known as rubella, in this province this year.

She was admitted to the Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Cabatuan town on Jan. 9. Her specimen was sent to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district, where it tested positive for German measles on Jan. 12.

Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, head of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), said the baby was hospitalized due to symptoms of fever and rashes.​..

3 dead in BARMM due to measles outbreak

Three individuals reportedly died in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) due to measles.

This was announced by BARMM's health minister, according to the GMA Integrated News Bulletin report on Friday.

Two of the fatalities were from Lanao del Sur while the other one was from Sulu.

Since January 2024, at least 600 measles cases have been reported in the region.​..​

Measles, rubella cases up 39 percent

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded over 2,000 cases of measles and rubella nationwide.

Latest data from the DOH showed that 2,264 cases were reported as of April 27, an increase of 39 percent compared to the 1,627 recorded on April 6.

Meanwhile, the DOH reported that 1,177,299 children in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have been vaccinated against measles since May 1.

The department said it is close to achieving its target of 1.3 million vaccinees during the measles outbreak response immunization program in BARMM, which started on April 1.​..
