ASF cases in Bontoc rising

BONTOC, Mountain Province: Municipal officials here have confirmed the rising number of pigs infected with the African swine fever (ASF) virus.

According to Municipal Agriculturist Renato Falag-ey, Bontoc has recorded a total of 197 swines infected with ASF from October 2021 to February 2022.

Falag-ey said 156 were recorded in Barangay Samoki, 27 in Poblacion and nine in Bontoc Ili.

The affected areas in Barangay Samoki are Sitio Riverside, Khefa, Pawek, Sadlan, Khawana, Fagkhay, Attor, Sadlan and Kalonglong. In Barangay Poblacion is Sitio Cheppay while in Barangay Bontoc Ili are Sitios Foyayeng, Pattig and Sokok...

Zamboanga City under red zone as hundreds of ASF cases detected in 5 villages

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) stepped up animal quarantine measures in Zamboanga City due to cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) infections in at least five of its villages.

The City Veterinarian’s Office said ASF cases were detected in barangays Pasonanca, Bunguao, Manguso, Curuan, and Manicahan.

Dr. Reildrin Morales, BAI acting director, placed Zamboanga City under the red zone category this week because of the ASF cases.

As of Friday, 469 hogs died of ASF, and 379 others were culled, according to assistant city veterinarian Dr. Arnedo Agbayani.

Agbayani said about 107 hog raisers were affected in the five villages...

TWO-HUNDRED-THREE barangay (villages) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) had been affected by the dreaded African swine fever (ASF) over the past two years.

Dr. Cameron Odsey, regional director of the Cordillera office of the Department of Agriculture (DA-CAR), over the weekend said the number of ASF-infected villages is 16 percent of the 1,178 barangay in the administrative region.

He added that for this year alone, some P247.5 million has been earmarked by the agency for the ongoing swine production feed assistance program toward the realization of the government's swine repopulation program.

The repopulation program aims to bring back the stability of supply and prices of pork in local markets...

DA declares South Cotabato a red zone for African Swine Fever

KORONADAL CITY (MindaNews / 20 June) – South Cotabato’s hog industry is facing serious threats after the province has been placed by the Department of Agriculture (DA) under the red zone or infected area for African Swine Fever (ASF).

South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. announced Monday that DA Region 12 and the Bureau of Quarantine already upgraded the province’s zoning status to red following the emergence of confirmed ASF cases in the last three months in at least two municipalities.

More than 400 backyard hogs have been culled since March in parts of Banga and Surallah towns due to the ASF contamination...

ASF cases continue to spread in Zambo City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet) continued to call on the public to monitor and immediately report hog illnesses and deaths.

Dr. Mario Arriola, OCVet chief, issued the appeal Saturday as the city remains in the red (infected) zone classification of the African swine fever (ASF) monitoring of the Department of Agriculture as cases continue to spread.

Arriola said the number of villages with ASF cases rose to 27 from 22 as of Friday, with 799 hog raisers affected.

Hog mortalities soared to 2,977 while 872 have been culled during the last seven days...

DA: 5 regions affected by ASF

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday said that at least five regions in the country are affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).

In a press conference, DA Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Assistant Director Dr. Jonathan Sabiniano identified the regions as the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) and 12 (SOCCSKSARGEN).

"As of Aug. 4, 2022, from 14 regions, only five regions are now affected by the African Swine Fever," Sabiniano said.

Sabiniano added that efforts are being made to contain the spread of the ASF...
