Highlights

371,717 dengue cases, including 1,407 deaths, reported from 1 January to 19 October 2019: 106% higher than in 2018.

5,927 newly reported dengue cases and 20 deaths between 13 and 19 October, decreased from 6,561 cases in the preceding week, and 23% lower than in the same epidemiological week in 2018.

Weekly Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 0.34% in epidemiological week 42 (13-19 October 2019) is lower than in same period in 2018 (0.52%). Accumulative CFR of 0.38% is also lower than in 2018 (0.51%)

A National Dengue Epidemic was declared on 6 August 2019.

12 out of 17 regions exceed either the alert or the epidemic threshold...

Nearly 2,500 dengue cases recorded in Davao City

THE number of confirmed dengue cases in Davao City already reached almost 2,500 as of October 2019, based on the data of the City Health Office (CHO).

According to CHO, dengue cases in the city had reached a total of 2,481 in the first 10 months of the year. The month of August recorded the most number of cases with 505.

The number is higher compared to 2018 with a total of 1,609 in the same period. The total number of dengue cases in 2018 had reached a total of 1,820.

The city, meanwhile, recorded nine deaths as of October this year. The figure is less compared to last year's 14 deaths...

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s dengue epidemic is abating, with 4,438 cases recorded from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, data from the Department of Health (DOH)’s Epidemiology Bureau showed.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, there has been a declining trend in the number of dengue cases being reported to the agency.

“Hopefully this is the end of our dengue epidemic so I hope next year we’ll see a much lower incidence of dengue,” he said in an interview.

Based on the latest DOH report, there were a total of 4,438 cases recorded from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, which is 37 percent lower than the 7,025 cases during the same period in 2018. This brings to 387,254 the number of cases recorded since January. The number of cases recorded in 2018 was 194,267.

The DOH had documented the highest cases in a week in July at 14,321...

MANILA, Philippines — While new dengue cases continue to drop, the total number of patients who were afflicted with the mosquito-borne disease this year has already breached more than 400,000.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)-Epidemiology Bureau’s monitoring, there are already 402,694 dengue cases nationwide as of Nov. 16, a 92-percent increase from last year, when there were only 209,335 cases.

Since the start of the year, 1,502 persons have died from dengue, up from last year’s 1,075.

The current total this year has already exceeded the overall cases seen since 2012...

Dengue deaths up 87% in 2019

DEATHS due to dengue in Davao Region increased by 87 percent in 2019 to 43 from 23 in 2018.

Data from the Department of Health-Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (DOH-RESU) shows that from January to December 2019, dengue cases in the region have reached to a total of 8,060. In August last year, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III declared a national dengue epidemic because of the growing cases nationwide.

Davao Region was one of the regions monitored after exceeding the alert threshold.

“Davao City in particular as well as Region 11 (Davao Region), since we are a very favorite place for dengue to occur, we’ve had several episodes of increased cases and it may come back a little bit. But in 2019, we’ve had a large number of cases detected all over the region in varying periods,” DOH-Resu Davao head Dr. Cleo Fe Tabada said in a press forum on Monday at SM City Annex.

Davao City topped the most cases of dengue with 4,209 patients and 25 deaths, followed by Davao de Oro with 1,363 cases and two deaths; Davao del Norte with 1,121 cases and seven deaths; Davao Oriental with 890 cases and three deaths; Davao del Sur with 318 cases and four deaths; and Davao Occidental with 69 case and two deaths...
