NoCot town declares state of calamity due to ASF
By John Andrew Tabugoc July 21, 2020, 5:19 pm

MAGPET, North Cotabato – Members of the local council unanimously approved Monday a resolution declaring the municipality under a state of calamity due to the increasing cases of African swine fever (ASF).

Jupiter Rubino, the municipal administrator, said the utilization of the apportioned calamity fund, which he failed to disclose pending completion of government accounting procedure, will focus on manpower and operation of mounted ASF checkpoints to effectively contain the disease.

“We need the fund to consistently hold the spread of ASF to other villages and even to nearby towns”, Rubino said...

Davao chorizos being sold online found positive for ASF

CEBU CITY—Beware of purchasing chorizos that were made in Mindanao and being sold online.

Dr. Daniel Ventura, the African Swine Fever (ASF) focal person of the Department of Agriculture Central Visayas (DA 7), said that chorizo samples in Davao tested positive for African Swine Fever or ASF.

“Please advise all industry stakeholders to be vigilant on Chorizo de Davao being sold online. It was reported that regional task forces in Mindanao are jointly tracing private processors of chorizo products,” Ventura said.

In a public advisory, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) warned that without physical access to the items being sold, consumers buying meat online have no way of knowing its quality and rely only on textual description and images provided by the seller...

Surge in ASF-infected areas noted in NoCot town
By John Andrew Tabugoc July 31, 2020, 5:04 pm

MAGPET, North Cotabato - The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV) said it has intensified the decontamination drive against the African swine fever (ASF) following the increase in the number of villages here affected by the highly contagious hemorrhagic viral disease.

From the initial number of three ASF affected villages - Magcaalam, Ilian, and Binay – the number of infected barangays has jumped to nine, according to the latest report of OPV.

The additional ASF affected villages included Tagbac, Bantac, Pangao-an, Poblacion, Noa, and Doles. As of Friday, the OPV has depopulated 678 hogs from 159 local hog owners to avoid further contamination in this town...

DAGUPAN CITY , Philippines — African Swine Fever (ASF) has affected 29 towns and cities in Pangasinan and four towns in La Union, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

“The ASF is hard to contain and control,” DA regional Executive Director Lucrecio Alviar Jr. said in yesterday’s virtual forum of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.

The provinces of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte are not affected by the swine fever.

About 11,035 hogs have been depopulated as of Aug. 6 in Pangasinan and La Union, according to Florentino Adame, DA regional regulatory division chief and field officer.

COTABATO CITY – North Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco has ordered the culling of all hogs within the five-kilometer radius of a village in Kidapawan City to prevent the spread of the African swine fever (ASF).

“About 200 hogs have already been culled in Barangay Linangcob, Kidapawan City as of Sunday,” Catamco told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview Monday.

Last week, some 1,400 hogs affecting 386 hog raisers in the ASF-affected towns of Magpet, Arakan, and Pres. Roxas in the province were also culled to stop the infection from spreading...

50 hogs culled as ASF spreads to another NoCot town
By Noel Punzalan August 19, 2020, 9:28 pm

MAKILALA, North Cotabato--A village official here confirmed Wednesday the inclusion of his area from the African swine fever (ASF) infestation amid the strict implementation of safety protocols.

Renante Baclay, chairman of Barangay Malungon, said some meat samples earlier brought to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) in General Santos City from domestic hogs in his village tested positive of the ASF disease.

“The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) collected meat samples three weeks ago and some tested ASF positive," Baclay said.

Fifty domestic hogs from seven backyard swine raisers here were initially depopulated within the 50-meter radius. OPVet workers headed by Dr. Rufino Sorupia immediately convened residents and were assured to receive cash assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA-12)...

Dr Florentino Adame of the Department of Agriculture in the Ilocos Region warns that the local practice of 'apagan' may lead to the quick transmission of ASF

The Department of Agriculture has reported that 33 towns in Pangasinan have been stricken by African swine fever (ASF), affecting thousands of hog raisers.

The Department of Agriculture in the Ilocos Region (DA-Region I) said on Monday, August 17, that it recorded at least 2,183 hog raisers whose farms have been struck by the disese, leading to the culling of 16,106 hogs.

There are 4 cities and 44 towns in Pangasinan.

DA-Region I also reported that ASF was also found in 6 towns in La Union, while the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur remain "green areas," or still free of the fast-spreading disease....

31 of 81 provinces hit with African swine fever
ABS-CBN News
Posted at Sep 25 2020 08:44 AM | Updated as of Sep 25 2020 12:35 PM

Thirty-one of 81 Philippine provinces have tallied cases of the African swine fever that has pulled down the supply of pork, the Bureau of Animal Industry said Friday.

"‘Pag sinabi po nating 31 provinces, hindi naman po lahat ng bayan o barangay doon ay mayroon. Kalat-kalat po iyon," said Dr. Ronnie Domingo, Bureau of Animal Industry.

(When we say that 31 provinces were hit, it does not mean that all towns or barangays there have ASF cases. Those are spread out.)...
