THE Department of Health (DOH) 7 reported 1,121 dengue cases for January 2017, or 38 percent lower compared to the 1,815 dengue cases for the same period in 2016.
Rennan Cimafranca, of the DOH?s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (Resu) said Resu recorded 12 deaths from dengue in January 2017, which is lesser to the 14 deaths recorded in the same period last year.
Cimafranca said the figures on dengue cases covers Region 7, which is composed of Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor.
Cimafranca said the top five areas are Cebu City, with 156 cases including two deaths; Mandaue City, with 126 including one death; Lapu-Lapu City, with 104 cases including two deaths; Consolacion, with 64 cases including four deaths; and Toledo City, with 47 cases...

2 Negrenses die of dengue

TWO residents of Negros Occidental died due to dengue between January 1 and February 4 this year, records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed. The fatalities were from the cities of Escalante and San Carlos.

During the period, the PHO reported 302 dengue cases, or lower by three percent than the 311 cases in 2016...

Central Visayas dengue deaths up

Cebu City ? There were more dengue deaths in Central Visayas in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year, according to the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health (DOH).

In the latest data released by RESU, 48 people had died from dengue from January 1 to April 1 of this year, up from 30 deaths during the first quarter of 2016.

Four of the dengue deaths occurred in the latter part of March.

The number of dengue cases, however, dropped slightly, from 4,531 last year to 4,517 this year.

Cebu City had the bulk of the dengue cases in the region, with 20.8 percent of the total. There were 17 dengue deaths and 921 cases in the city in the first three months of this year, RESU said.

Mandaue City reported 408 dengue cases, with one fatality. Lapu-Lapu City had 325 dengue cases with no reported death.

The municipality of Consolacion had 212 cases, with 4 fatalities, while Dumaguete City reported 212 cases with no deaths...

DAVAO City assistant health officer Dr. Marjorie Culas reported that their office recorded 15 deaths due to dengue since January to May 4, 2017.

"Since January 2017 until today, we have 552 cases of dengue, really, there is really a reduction of cases compared with the last year with the same period unfortunately since January we have 15 deaths," she said during the I-Speak weekly media forum at the Davao City Hall.

Culas underscored that the number of cases is lower compared to same period last year with more or less 2,000 cases from January to May, but the number of cases is alarming...

Central Visayas dengue deaths climb to 62

Cebu City ? Deaths from dengue in Central Visayas continued to rise this year even as the number of dengue cases dropped slightly, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

From January 1 to June 3, dengue cases in the region reached 6,034, with 62 fatalities.

The number of cases was lower by 1.1 percent from last year?s 6,099 but the fatalities rose from 48.

DOH Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit cluster head Shelbay Blanco, however, said that they were still looking into why the number of fatalities have increased in 2017, when in fact, this year?s number of cases dropped from last year...

Dengue cases drop in first half of 2017 ? report

The Department of Health (DoH) reported a considerable decrease of dengue fever cases in the first half of 2017 in which only 43,770 nationwide have been tallied from January 1 to July 1.

This is 36.8 percent lower than the 69, 297 recorded in the same period in 2016.

Among the 43,770 cases, 250 deaths were reported, which is 84 fatalities less than the 334 recorded in the same period in 2016.

The report showed that all regions, except in Metro Manila, showed decreasing trends in dengue cases as compared to 2016...

Baguio City ? Cases of dengue fever in the Cordillera region declined by 73 percent in the first nine months of the year.

The Department of Health-Cordillera (DOH-CAR) reported that 2,689 dengue fever cases were reported from January to September 2017, a significant decrease from the 9,813 reported cases over the same period last year.

Medical Officer III and head of the Department of Health Emergency Management Cluster of the DOH-CAR Dr. Jennifer Joyce R. Pira, said that deaths due to dengue fever also decreased this year.

Eight fatalities were reported over the same period this year, compared to 21 in the first nine months of 2016...

Pangasinan dengue cases up 27%

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan ? Ten towns in this province have been placed on the watchlist for dengue due to increased number of cases.

This was disclosed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, who called on the public to take the necessary precautionary measures as dengue continues to wreak havoc in the province.

The PHO registered 5,010 cases of dengue from January 1 to December 18 this year or an increase of 27 percent from 3,952 cases registered for the same period last year.

Placed on the watchlist due to their high number of dengue cases were Bayambang, 494; San Carlos City, 378; Malasiqui, 301; Urdaneta City, 289; Lingayen, 270; Bugallon, 205; Binmaley, 177; Sta. Barbara, 167; Pozorrubio, 148; and Calasiao, 145...
