Dengue death toll in Davao Region reaches 40

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/18 July) ? Forty deaths caused by dengue have been reported in Region 11 from January to July 15 this year, the Department of Health regional office said.

DOH 11 said there were 4,524 cases recorded as of July 15, or an increase of 145 percent over the 1,850 cases that resulted in seven deaths for the same period last year.

Davao City registered the highest number of cases (1,648) and eight deaths, followed by Davao Oriental with 1,052 and eight deaths, Davao del Norte with 913 and 14 deaths, Compostela Valley with 620 and seven deaths, and Davao del Sur with 291 and three deaths.

Speaking in Monday?s Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City, Engr. Antonietta Ebol, program manager of Dengue Prevention and Control of DOH 11, blamed the spike on both the region?s rainfall pattern and the long drought...

Dengue cases rise by 36% nationwide, says DOH

Based on the report prepared by the DOH epidemiology bureau, there were 57,026 dengue cases recorded nationwide from Jan. 1 to June 25, or 35.7 percent higher than the 42,026 cases recorded during the same period last year.

There was also a higher number of dengue deaths in 2016, with 248 compared with 148 in 2015 during the same period.

Based on its latest report, the DOH noted that the regions with the most number of dengue cases during the six-month period were Calabarzon with 7,463 (13.1 percent); Central Visayas, 5,783 (10.1 percent); Central Luzon, 5,586 (9.8 percent); northern Mindanao, 5,521 (9.7 percent); and Socssksargen, 4,583 (8 percent).

The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) reports an ?alarming? 148% rise is dengue cases from January to July 16 this year with almost four times as many deaths compared to the same period last year.

According to Rennan Cimafranca, head of the Health Department?s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in Central Visayas (RESU-7), for the first half of the year, dengue cases reported already reached 6,810 compared to the 2,750 cases recorded for the same period in 2015.

Fifty-seven (57) deaths were recorded in Central Visayas this year compared to 15 deaths last year.

Of the cases, almost half or 3,108 were reported in Cebu province while Cebu City topped cities and municipalities in the region with the most number of dengue cases at 978, followed by Mandaue City with 312 and Toledo City with 268 cases. Most of the victims were children, aged 6-10 years old...

BAGUIO CITY ?- Dengue cases in this mountain city increased to almost 2,000 for the first seven months of the year, the Department of Health?Cordillera Regional Office (DOH-CAR) revealed Thursday.

DOH-CAR Director Lakshmi Legaspi said based on epidemiology reports, dengue cases in the region have been increasing since 2014.

To date, from January to July, there are 1,199 cases with one casualty ? a 57-year old male from Barangay San Luis ? compared to just 239 last year and no casualty, Legaspi said...

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines (Philippines News Agency) -? Officials have declared the entire municipality of Tupi in South Cotabato under a state of calamity due to the rising cases of deadly dengue fever.

Emil Sumagaysay, Tupi Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief, said the Sangguniang Bayan made the declaration on Thursday to assist the local government?s ongoing interventions against the spread of the viral disease.

He said the declaration was based on a recommendation issued by the Tupi MDRRM Council headed by Mayor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. The declaration will make emergency funds available so the town can address the dengue threat.

Citing a report from the Tupi Municipal Health Office, he said the number of confirmed dengue cases in the area had already reached 297 as of July 14, up by around 48 percent against the same period last year.

Sumagaysay said four fatalities due to dengue complications were recorded in three of their 15 barangays since April.

Two of the cases were in Barangay Poblacion and one each in barangays Bunao and Acmonan, he said...

Over 66,000 dengue cases reported so far ? DOH

MORE than 66,000 dengue cases have been reported around the country in the first seven months of 2016, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
Based on the latest Disease Surveillance Report, the DOH said there are already 66,299 dengue cases recorded from January 1 to July 16.
"This is 22.9 percent higher compared to the same period as last year, which is 53,938," said the DOH.
There was also a higher number of deaths this year with 287 while 2015 saw 186 dengue deaths.

Pampanga records spike in dengue cases

City of San Fernando, Pampanga ? The number of dengue cases in Pampanga increased by 33 percent with at least five deaths reported, records from the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health Regional Office 3 (DOH-R3) bared.

The DOH-RESU data showed that the fatalities were reported in the municipalities of Lubao, Macabebe and Sta. Rita and the city of Mabalacat.

Those infected by the vector-borne disease from January to July this year reached 1, 986, or 498 more than the 1, 488 recorded cases during the same period last year.

The report also said there was a sharp increase of cases recorded per municipality...

MANILA, Philippines ? The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, August 10, revealed the 47 barangays (villages) in the country dubbed dengue clusters or "hot zones."

The health department reported 70,697 suspected dengue cases from January 1 to July 23, 2016 ? 19.1% higher compared to the same period in 2015 (59,342 cases). Of this number, 308 died (0.44% case fatality rate).

Most of the suspected dengue cases were from Calabarzon (11.9%), Central Visayas (9.9%), Soccsksargen (9.2%), Northern Mindanao (9.1%), and Central Luzon (9%).

The DOH also recorded 521 laboratory confirmed dengue cases, most of which were from the Zamboanga Peninsula.

MANILA, Philippines ? The Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday, August 16, that it has recorded a total of 84,085 suspected dengue cases in the country from January 1 to August 6, 2016.

This is 15.8% higher compared to the same period in 2015 (72,627), and out of this number, 372 people died.

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao (MindaNews / 24 Aug) ? Health authorities in Maguindanao have expressed alarm over the rising dengue cases in the province, which to date have recorded six deaths due to the mosquito-borne disease that officials say was supposed to be preventable.

Dr. Tahir Sulaik, Maguindanao health chief and head of the Integrated Provincial health Office (IPHO), said that from January to the first week of August, 428 dengue cases have been reported, about six percent higher as compared to the same period last year...

...The municipality of Parang has the highest number of dengue incidents ? 18 percent of the total number of cases from all over the province.

AN official of the Department of Health (DOH) 7 questioned the Cebu Provincial Health Office?s plan to declare a dengue outbreak in the entire province.

But Rennan Cimafranca of the DOH 7?s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance (Resu) said that if the Cebu Provincial Government proceeds with its plan, he couldn?t stop them.

In an interview yesterday, Cimafranca told reporters that PHO has no basis for the declaration of a province-wide dengue outbreak. He said it would not be fair to other local government units under Cebu Province if their LGUs are included in the outbreak even if they have fewer dengue cases and deaths.

?Wa gyud na mahitabo nga mo-declare ta og municipal or province-wide outbreak, mao na nga di pud ko ka comment in behalf nila kon unsa ilang basehan (This didn?t happen before, I don?t know what?s their basis),? Cimafranca said.

Cimafranca said officials from PHO called yesterday to inform them of their plan to recommend a province-wide dengue outbreak before the Cebu Provincial Board.

Barangay

He said DOH can?t easily declare an outbreak, even at the barangay level.

The last time DOH 7 declared a dengue outbreak was in 2014 in Barangay Buanoy, Balamban.

As of Oct. 1, dengue cases in Central Visayas have reached 16,158, with 131 deaths, around 130 percent higher compared to the same period last year.

Of 20 LGUs in Central Visayas with the most number of dengue cases, 11 are in Cebu Province.

Local government units in Cebu Province with a high number of dengue cases include the cities of Toledo, Naga, Talisay, Danao and Carcar, and the towns of Balamban, Minglanilla, Cordova, San Fernando, Liloan and Consolacion.

Cebu City is still on top of the list with 2,143 cases and 13 deaths.

But even though it has fewer cases, Mandaue City has more dengue deaths compared to other LGUs, with 14 dengue fatalities reported as of this month...

Dengue outbreak declared in Cebu province

A dengue outbreak has been declared in Cebu province, according to a report on GMA's "Saksi" on Tuesday.

The declaration was made due to the sharp increase in the number of dengue cases in various towns and cities in the province.

Based on the data from the Cebu Provincial Health Office, more than 5,000 cases have been recorded from January to September this year.

Out of more than 5,000 cases, 50 deaths have been reported...

DENGUE cases in Bacolod City increased by 238 percent in the first nine months of the year compared to the number during the same period in 2015, records of City Health Office (CHO) showed.

Doctor Grace Tan, medical officer IV and chief of CHO Environmental Sanitation Division, said Monday, October 10, that from January 1 to September this year, Bacolod has a total of 1,499 dengue cases from only 444 cases in the previous year.

She said from July to September this year, 13 young children died due to dengue...

Dengue cases still rising in Central Visayas

Cebu City ? Dengue cases in Central Visayas continue to rise despite the intensified campaign against the mosquito-borne disease, the Department of Health (DOH) 7 said Monday.

From January to October of this year, the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the DOH regional office recorded 17,974 dengue cases in the region, with 144 deaths.

Among the latest fatalities was a four-year-old girl who died of complications brought about by severe dengue, following an outbreak in Cebu. Ellin Princess Racho died of cardiopulmonary failure...

Cases of death due to dengue inBacolod City rose to 16 with a 2-year-old girl from Brgy. 31 as the latest victim.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environmental and Sanitation Division, yesterday said the child died on October 29 after she was admitted to a private hospital on Oct 26.She is the only fatality for October while most of the victims diedin September.

Tan said the total cases of dengue has reached 1,679 from January 1 to October 29, or an increase of 178 percent compared to the same period last year.

She said Brgy. Villamonte topped the list with a total of 193 cases, followed by Estefania ? 177, Taculing ? 173, Mansilingan ? 147, Bata ? 143, Mandalagan ? 101, and Alijis ? 91.

Statistic-wise, cases of dengue had started to declinein the past four weeks, but there are no reports cases of zika virus in Bacolod City, Tan said...

DUMAGUETE CITY ?- The number of dengue-related deaths in Negros Oriental has reached 31 as of latest count, according to the Department of Health-Negros Island Region (DOH-NIR).

A report from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the DOH-NIR also disclosed that from January 1 to November 5, this year, the total number of dengue cases has already reached 4,500.

This is 172 percent higher compared to the same period of last year, with 1,653 cases and 14 deaths.

Majority of the cases were from Dumaguete City (16.5 percent), followed by Bais City (15.1 percent), Siaton (7.4 percent), Bayawan City (6.6 percent) and Sibulan (6.1 percent)...

Dengue cases down in November, says PHO

THE Cebu Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported a decline in dengue cases in a span of one month from October to November this year.

Records from the PHO showed that there were 785 dengue cases in November compared to 1,559 last October.

The PHO declared a dengue outbreak during the month of October due to the surge in dengue cases...

FORTY more persons died of dengue fever in Cebu Province as of Christmas Eve this year, compared with the same period in 2016. That 160 percent increase in deaths caused by dengue fever is reflected in a report by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The PHO also reported a 264 percent increase in the number of persons who fell ill with dengue fever this year, compared with last year?s numbers. The ?Dengue Current Situation? report from the PHO showed 8,969 cases of dengue fever from Jan. 1 to Dec. 24, 2016, compared with 2,461 in the same period in 2015...

Dengue fever in the region declined by two percent from January to the first week of December 2016 with 10,561 suspected cases compared to the 10,741 cases recorded during the same period in 2015.

Department of Health-Cordillera Director Lakshmi Legaspi said 20 people died due to dengue during the reckoning period last year compared to the 13 deaths reported during the same period in 2015.

She said clustering of cases were reported in some barangays in Apayao and Kalinga. Continuous cooperation and coordination of all sectors are encouraged to help intensify the campaign against dengue, chikungunya, zika, and Japanese encephalitis; and weekly cleanup drive, especially in areas that have clustering for almost two weeks...

MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Health (DOH) reported Thursday that a total of 211,108 suspected dengue cases were recorded nationwide from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 last year.

This is 1.3 percent lower compared to the same period in the previous year, which totaled 213,930, according to the report of the DOH National Epidemiology Center?s public health surveillance division.

By region, Central Visayas had the most number of cases with 27,194 (12.9 percent), followed by Western Visayas with 26,142 (12.4 percent), Calabarzon with 21,860 (10.4 percent), Central Luzon with 20,298 cases (9.6 percent), and Soccsksargen with 17,903 (8.5 percent)...
