San Lazaro Hospital fills up with measles cases as outbreak continues

Of the 500 beds at San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, 261 are filled with measles patients, with patients in one ward having to share beds as the city deals with an outbreak that began in October 2013.

In an interview Dr, Jose Benito Villarama said the influx of measles patients started last October and rose steadily from November. By December 14, the Department of Health had tallied 1,724 measles cases across the country, 21 of which led to death.

?The increased in the number of measles patients has forced us to convert sections of San Lazaro Hospital into measles ward,? Villarama said...

6 suspected cases of measles up in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique, Jan.7 (PIA 6) - - The province of Antique has six suspected cases of measles according to the Antique Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) Coordinator Veronica Abella said that as of January 6, 2014 the suspected cases were identified in the municipalities of San Jose, Hamtic and Sibalom.

?For San Jose, we have suspect measles cases for a 7 month-old child, a one-year old, 13 and 14 years old; Hamtic has one child ageing 8 years old; and a 33 year-old from Sibalom.

Abella said that blood samples were taken from the patients and sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM Manila) for confirmation...

THE Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas is monitoring the increasing number of measles cases in the region following an outbreak in Aklan province.

From last year until January 7 this year, the DOH recorded a total of 240 measles cases in the region.

Of the 240 cases, 193 are in Aklan, 18 in Negros Occidental, 14 in Capiz, 8 in Iloilo, four in Antique, and three in Guimaras...

MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday ruled out that a new strain of measles had caused the outbreak of the illness in Metro Manila.

DOH Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa said that according to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), there is no new strain of the highly contagious disease.

The DOH said the spread of measles was causaed by children who have not yet been immunized against the disease...

AT LEAST eight persons were down due to measles infection in Negros Oriental, according to the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).

Records also show that four of them were coming from Dumaguete City, two from Amlan town, one from Dauin, and another one from Basay town.

Assistant Provincial Health officer Dr. Edgardo Barredo told Sun.Star that the youngest patient was a four-year-old child from Banilad, Dumaguete City and the oldest was a 29-year-old from Dumaguete City, Basay and Amlan towns...

DOH investigates measles cases in Nueva Vizcaya

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 10 (PIA) - - Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region 2 has sent a team to investigate recorded measles cases in Nueva Vizcaya following the report of an outbreak in the area.

Alan Sibal, information officer, said the team will study the history of the reported cases in the area after receiving the report of the provincial epidemiology surveillance unit of Nueva Vizcaya that they have 20 suspected measles cases, seven laboratory confirmed and one death.

In the whole region, there were 168 reported suspected cases and out of this number there were 13 laboratory confirmed cases in 2013.

Of the confirmed cases, seven came from Nueva Vizcaya, two in Isabela and Ilagan City, one in Santiago City and Cagayan province while provinces of Batanes and Quirino and the city of Tuguegarao registered zero confirmed case...

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, January 13 (PIA) -- Department of Health (DOH) recorded a 112 percent increase in suspected measles cases in Central Luzon last 2013 compared to 2012.

?There were 432 cases last year. This is significantly higher than the 204 cases reported in 2012,? DOH Expanded Program on Immunization head Lailani Mangulabnan disclosed...

...Despite the surge in the number of cases, Gorgolon assured the public that there is no outbreak in the region as it is not as alarming as compared to neighboring Metro Manila.

DOH: 7,500% jump in suspected Metro measles cases

The Department of Health (DOH) records a 7,500% increase in suspected measles cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) from January 1 to 11 compared to the same period last year.

According to a DOH report, from 10 suspected measles cases last year, the number of cases climbed to 760 this year.

DOH-NCR Director Eduardo Janairo says only 6% of the reported cases have been confirmed, so far, while the rest are awaiting test results.

Janairo adds it is important to confirm the cases, as the manifestations of measles can be quite similar to dengue, chikungunya and meninggococcemia...

Divene Hilario, head of health education and promotion in the Davao Region of the Department of Health, said that the patients found to have measles come from Buhangin, Sasa, and poblacion in Davao City, Pantukan in Compostela Valley, and Panabo City.

She said the DOH already considered it an outbreak since there is more than one case, based on the criteria set by the World Health Organization?s...

Cagayan de Oro - The Department of Health Regional Health Office 10 (DOH-RHO 10) here in Cagayan de Oro confirmed an alarming 1,589-percent increase in cases of measles in Northern Mindanao.

Dr. David Mendoza of the DOH 10 said that, so far 152 suspected cases of measles had been monitored by the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance and Disaster Response Unit (RESDRU) from January 1 to February 10, 2014, compared to only nine case recorded in a similar period in 2013.

Suspect measles cases in Cordilera up by 1,560%

Cases of suspect measles in the Cordillera have soared to 83 this year from last year?s five cases, marking a whopping 1,560 percent increase.

In her regional epidemiology surveillance unit update on Thursday, Department of Health OIC Regional Director Amelita Pangilinan said the 83 cases were reported by the disease reporting units in the Cordillera from Jan. 1 to Feb. 8 this year.

Two cases, on the other hand, have been confirmed after undergoing laboratory test in the DOH central office. There was no fatality reported...

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 4 March) ? The cases of suspected measles in Davao city have risen from 226 in February 20 to 280 cases as of March 3, the City Health Office reported.

Eight of the suspected cases have been confirmed, according to the monitoring of the City Epidemeology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) in hospitals, health stations and health centers.

The confirmed cases are residents of Agdao, Bunawan, Sasa, Talomo North, Toril, and Tugbok districts. The data may reflect either an increase in cases of measles or an increase in surveillance reports, the CESU said.

The Department of Health said recently that there were 14 confirmed measles cases in the region as of February...
