Petitioning Medical Health & Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh: Necessary action needed to reduce no. of deaths due to encephalitis.

Ok folks - I just came across this petition originating in India. As background - several hundred deaths from encephalitis occur each year in Uttar Pradesh. The deaths are mostly children. Originally believed to be from Japanese Encephalitis, widespread vaccination has not solved the problem. While some cases are JE, it is now believed that enteroviral contamination of drinking water may be responsible for the majority, but the bottom line is that nobody really knows. 373 deaths have occurred so far this year. The hospitals are overwhelmed and diagnostic surveillance is inadequate. Ms. Singh lives in Lucknow, UP and is appealing for help. So far no-one has signed her petition. Can we at least express solidarity with Ms. Singh. These innocents deserve a chance. Can we put some pressure on the UP government and let them know that the international community is paying attention? Please follow the link and consider signing - Ro

Encephalitis reported to have killed 10 children in past 24 hours taking the total death toll to 361 in UP State, this season. Raising a voice would help prevent the number of children dying every year due to encephalitis, commonly in and around Gorakhpur region of the State. lets join hands and make a difference in the lives of these innocent children.
