Peru declares health emergency in cities like Lima, Callao, and Tacna due to measles outbreak
This information comes from:
RPP Noticias, a Peruvian media outlet in collaboration with BioBioChile.

The Peruvian government has declared a health emergency due to a complex measles outbreak originating in the Puno region, which has spread to the country's main cities.

The measure includes Metropolitan Lima and the regions of Puno, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Moquegua, Amazonas, Loreto, Tacna, Tumbes, Ucayali, Madre de Dios, and Apurímac, as well as the constitutional province of Callao.

The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Henry Rebaza Iparraguirre, stated that the objective of the emergency declaration is to intensify vaccination efforts among vulnerable populations and prevent an increase in measles cases.

“What this supreme decree declaring a state of emergency seeks to do is intensify the search for susceptible individuals to vaccinate and prevent, as with any disease of this type, further spread,” he stated.

According to Rebaza Iparraguirre, 257 cases of measles have been reported in Puno to date. He also noted that, fortunately, no other cases have been registered outside of this region...
