Pa. reports first human case of West Nile virus of 2010

A 69-year-old Philadelphia man is Pennsylvania's first human case of West Nile virus this year, the state Department of Health announced Wednesday.

The case is the first since 2008, when 14 Pennsylvanians were infected with the disease and one died. There were no human cases last year. The first human case in the state was reported in 2003, when 237 cases were reported.

Health authorities say Pennsylvania has its second case of West Nile virus for the year.



The Montgomery County Health Department says a 30-year-old Bridgeport man was found to be infected with the virus, and that has been confirmed by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last month, officials reported that a 69-year-old Philadelphia man had been found to have the virus.
