A medical officer at General Hospital, Sector 16, said, ??Going by statistics, each doctor in the Medicine OPD here has been receiving 8-10 cases of viral fever each day since the beginning of the month. We get not less than 40 such cases each day.??
THE REASONS
??Of course, it?s primarily because of rains and the change of season,?? said Dr Neelam Mehta, Medical Officer at the Sector 26 dispensary. She added, ??While 40-45 cases of viral fever are reported each day, we have also received complaints of water-borne diseases like diarrhoea. This is also the season for sore throats, cough and common colds, typhoid, and hepatitis B. Hence, there is a need to be extra careful.??

Doctors agree that most of these diseases, including viral infections, could be avoided by taking the right preventive measures. To begin with, avoid eating out as the food there is one of the most common carriers of infection, leading to viral and sore throats. Cut fruits available on the roadside or over-ripe fruits can also lead to an infection.
The city doctors also feel that diseases like malaria and dengue are also in the are. Hence, stagnant water should be emptied from the coolers and from other places like rooftops.
