Parents with kids in hospital can stay free at chain's area hotels

09/17/2009

The owner of the new Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel in Richmond Heights is setting aside up to six rooms nightly for the free use of parents whose children are patients at Ranken Jordan pediatric care hospital.

A free shuttle service to and from the hospital in Maryland Heights is part of the offer by Equis Hospitality Management, which opened the hotel this summer. Lauri Tanner, Ranken Jordan's president, said the average patient stay at the hospital is 51 days. She added that many of the kids come from poor families.

The hotel, at Clayton Road and Brentwood Boulevard, opened July 1 but its grand opening observance was Wednesday.

Mike Mullenix, chairman and CEO of Equis Hospitality Management, said the free stays and shuttle service will also apply to as many as six rooms nightly at the company's other St. Louis-area hotels ? the Homewood Suites at Riverport, the Residence Inn by Marriott downtown, the Residence Inn in Earth City, plus the Fairfield Inn and the TownePlace Suites, both in St. Charles.
