Asuncion, Jan 22 (EFE) .- The Ministry of Health of Paraguay reported today that the death toll from influenza A in the country rose to 47 after receiving the results of some tests in August and shipped last September to overseas laboratories .

The government agency said in a statement that the samples received also include the results of several patients presenting symptoms consistent with those months Influenza A, 1,024 people suffered from disease in the country in 2009.

The Ministry of Health who are still awaiting detailed results from other 6887 probable cases of the disease and 437 diagnoses were discarded after analysis.

Health officials said last December that kept the epidemiological alert was activated on 27 April at the risk of infection after the first confirmed fatalities in the U.S. and Mexico.

The Public Health Ministry reported that the cumulative total of notifications of Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) totals 8357. The confirmed are 1025, 6891 cases remain under suspicion, were discarded 441 and the toll remains a positive result in 47 cases.
The report of the situation of Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) in Paraguay with aggregated data (SE 20 2009 SE 4, 2010) available until 05 February this year is as follows:

There was a confirmed case of pandemic influenza (H1N1) in Epidemiological Week 4, from the Central Department, male, 27 years with no history of travel.

The bulletin indicates that this finding implies the persistence of circulation of pandemic influenza virus, denoting its probable endemicity, like other respiratory viruses.

According to national records, the pandemic virus circulating in our country for at least 9 months. The increased activity of the pandemic virus coincided with the period of greatest historical movement of influenza and other respiratory viruses, determining an epidemic of IRAS with an attack rate higher than in the past 5 years, according to the part of surveillance.

"Today, while continuing the movement of the pandemic strain, their behavior is closer to the circulation of the virus permanently. In this situation, the team of health monitoring is recommended to continue with the traditional monitoring system of the IRAS, outside the situation room, so no parts will generate more specific, as the epidemiological situation so requires no " the report said.
