Chikungunya epicenter in Central and Capital
PRESS 31 Dec, 2022 45

Cases double the registered amount of dengue.
According to this week's report, 789 were affected by chikungunya and 338 by dengue.
Citizen collaboration is essential to stop the epidemic. The control of environments and the elimination of hatcheries are multisectoral actions.

...The recent Arbovirosis Surveillance report shows an accelerated increase in chikungunya cases and a progressive growth of dengue. The DEN-1 and DEN-2 serotypes circulate within the national territory.

In the last three weeks, an average of 816 notifications of suspected dengue and 36 cases of the disease were reported: 30 identified in Alto Paraguay, in the districts of Fuerte Olimpo (29) and Carmelo Peralta (1) that report active outbreaks; 4 in Central, in Mariano Roque Alonso (2), Ypané (1) and Luque (1); and 2 in Concepción, both from the district of San Carlos del Apa.

On the other hand, the weekly report shows an average of 410 notifications of suspected chikungunya in the last three weeks and 420 cases identified in this same period.

The departments that register cases of chikungunya are: Central (315 cases), Asunción (90 cases), Caaguazú (4 cases), Concepción (3 cases), Boquerón (3 cases), Guairá (2 cases), Pdte. Hayes (1 case), Ñeembucú (1 case), Cordillera (1 case).

So far this year, 338 cases of dengue and 789 cases of chikungunya have been recorded in the country.

Control actions and elimination of breeding sites are insisted on to cut the life cycle of Aedes aegypti.
