Several deaths and dozens of people under treatment for an influenza pandemic was the result of the simulation carried out yesterday by government health sector, which trained to prepare in case of any contingency.

From eight o'clock in the morning, dozens of fake patients began arriving at the premises of the General Hospital of Zone 35 of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) with symptoms such as severe coughing and general malaise, so that medical staff - it was actually started to care.

Corridors and rooms of the hospital were put up for the simulation of the event, while dozens of coordinators and observers witnessed the development of protocols of care.

Many of the people who came to actually building to receive medical attention, were surprised to observe that some medical staff were dressed in white protective suits "like in the movies," said one witness.

The surprise was generated in some individuals who did not read large banners that were placed on the exterior and interior of the building to report the completion of the drill.

"Hey, what's going on? Asked a man frightened to see so many who had poor health.

At the gates of the hospital facilities, several students were waiting for their turn to enter the scene, and determined that each time a wave of sick due to come into demand for medical care.

In stretchers, in wheelchairs or assisted by other persons,
simulators roamed the corridors of the hospital faking a cough and a generalized malaise that due to its good performance, confused a number of those entitled under the IMSS who witnessed the staging.

"You will be playing the daughter of a lady who is dying," he instructed one of the coordinators to a student who participated in the representation and that he had to endure because the paper did not like it.

And yes, one of the rooms was put up as morgue due to the expectation that there will be deaths among patients.

Some of the players had to remain for several minutes pretending to be dead, which drew even more attention from the rightful owners who were not aware of the drill.

The action included the participation of up to three groups of the Mexican Army with 14 elements each, which supported the medical staff with securing the airport facilities, transport and medicines for the sick and also oversee the tasks of medical care .

It also represented a manifestation of citizens who, with banners and shouting, demanded vaccinations to health authorities, so that military and elements of the Municipal Police contained the enardecidos Protestants.

The event, informed the coordinator of the event in the IMSS and epidemiologist, Daniel Rodriguez Torres, is part of the National Action Plan for Preparedness and Response Against Influenza.

The reason for the staging, he added, is to draw the attention of all members of the health sector to be ready with a plan in a real situation.

Despite the size of the simulation was significant because the alleged ill, embodied by students, came by tens, in practice it is not known when it might happen an event of this magnitude.

"We are not going to tell, you can be at any time," he warned.
To give the phenomenon, he explained, it is necessary for the occurrence of genetic recombination or seasonal human influenza with the avian virus which would produce a pandemic.

He indicated that it was the transmission from birds to humans, but we still need to have this combination between the two ailments.
And it is in preventing this from happening that are making these exercises, he said.

The specialist said that influenza, flu or flu as the Americans call it, should not be confused with a common cold, because its impact is much more severe and can reach up to kill the patient.

In general, this disease is characterized by an attack on the overall state of the person, which usually leads to respiratory failure and other problems in the lungs.

He reported that to detect this disease should be sought four symptoms: fever, headache, dry cough and colds, plus a general state of prostration of the body and respiratory failure.

The common people should avoid self autodiagnosticarse and to prevent the escalation of the situation, so you have to know that every box must be addressed with the respiratory doctor, he said.

This type of disease, he added, need the rest of the patient, who must also consume plenty of fluids and citrus.

In addition, you should avoid the consumption of aspirin to try to soothe their pain, because you have to consume substances prescribed by a doctor.

Torres also mentioned that the general public can prevent the spread of respiratory tract diseases, including influenza, noting some biosecurity measures.

He added that some are to be careful when you cough or sneeze covering their mouths, to avoid greeting kiss and even hand, since vehicles are transmitters of pathogens, washing hands frequently and avoid social conglomerate.

"They should take shelter in their homes in any case,"
he said.
Any doubts about this should be consulted before a doctor, who is the one who can more accurately determine who is suffering from the disease.
In the operation carried out in the hospital IMSS participated epidemiologists, public health nurses, 50 players, 30 evaluators, controllers and even observers from the United States, who will make some recommendations, he said.

The activities of the National Action Plan for Preparedness and Response Against Influenza were held in several of the facilities of the health sector of the city, which for half a day made for training exercises to cope with the eventual pandemic of the disease.

In total, were 80 thousand people who participated in the drill, which began with the supposed arrival of two men from China and infected with influenza.

In one hour, sets the scenario, the city became a chaos with the pandemic, generating major conflicts.

The balance of the pandemic was 50 people dead, while today the organizing committee will meet to evaluate the results.

Health authorities advised people to apply vaccination against influenza, because after three years in a row to do is create more antibodies.

In case there was a pandemic, those who are vaccinated repeatedly would be the least affected.

When infected with this disease a patient may lose their lives in less than four hours, they indicated.

The sources added that the flu is a highly contagious acute respiratory illness with increased incidence in the winter months, which affects all ages but with greater severity and complications in the extremes of life.
