The confirmation of this second case comes hours after the announcement of the first imported case, detected in a traveler who entered through the Costa Rican border with Bocas del Toro, demonstrating a pattern linked to international travel.

In both cases, the diagnosis was validated by the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES) through standardized laboratory tests, which confirmed the presence of the virus and activated the corresponding control measures.

According to the official report, the patient presented with high fever, skin rash (exanthem), cough, and nasal discharge, characteristic symptoms of measles. The young woman received care at a private hospital, where she underwent the corresponding tests and remains under clinical observation.

Health authorities reiterated that this is an imported case and that, to date, there is no evidence of community transmission in Panama, although active surveillance is being maintained throughout the country.//

anama Confirms Third Measles Case and Rules Out Community Transmission

Panama City, May 21 (EFE) – Panama's Ministry of Health (Minsa) confirmed a third case of measles in the country on Thursday. The case is linked to exposure at the same lodging location and was previously connected to one of the confirmed imported cases.

"It stems from the imported case, and we do not have community transmission at this time," said Pablo González, head of the National Epidemiology Department at Minsa, at a press conference.

The official stated that the patient is a 40-year-old Panamanian citizen who is in stable condition and "presented mild and atypical symptoms." This is referred to in medical literature as a "modified measles" because it does not present the classic symptoms of the disease, and the patient has a history of vaccination.

González indicated that five people who had contact with the confirmed cases are also under investigation and that, for the time being, all remain isolated in their homes and have not required additional assistance or hospitalization...
