Gastroenteritis kills two women, infects over 1,500

HARIPUR:
Two women have been dead, while over 1,500 have been registered with the local health department, as reports of gastroenteritis (gastro) have been confirmed from various parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). The local authorities confirmed the death of two women. However, they refused to disclose the names of the deceased.

According to the health department and local villagers, the disease broke out in Kailag village in Kholian Bala last week, affecting 1,500 residents including women and children of all ages.

Health Executive District Officer Dr Mazhar Ali told The Express Tribune that two women, aged between 30 and 45, have died of the disease. ?The waterborne disease is widespread in the village and every third house has been affected by it,? he added.

As per details, gastroenteritis has shaped into a severe disease in Jahanian and its adjoining areas. Gastro killed Rana Faisal (3) resident of Chak139, Zubaida (7) resident of Chak 163-10-R, Wahid Bakhsh (10) of Chak 6/T, Nazar Muhammad (20) of Chak 119-10-R and Muhammad Sharif (30) 0f Chak 135-10-R in the previous few days. MUZAFFARGARH - Two-year-old child died on Saturday and his brother was in critical condition as diarrhoea broke out in Basti Bara Lashari here.
Rafiq?s brother Latif is three years old was also affected by the disease. He is now admitted to Rural Health Centre Shajmaal. Another 2-year-old, child Shafiq, belonging to the same village is also suffering from diarrhea for last one week. In addition, this disease is also rapidly spreading in Basti Yaro Wala and rural areas of Muzaffargarh such as Mehmood Kot, Sinawan, Ghazi Ghaat, Gujraat, Quraishi and in Basira.

Gastroenteritis kills two children, affects over 1,000 people in Battagram

ABBOTABAD:
Two children have died, while over 1,000 are suffering from severe diarrhoea and vomiting as cases of gastroenteritis (gastro) are increasing in different parts of Battagram District, sources told The Express Tribune on Monday.

Local health authorities have confirmed the death of two children from Habib Banda village due to the disease. However, they claim that mobile teams have been sent to affected areas to treat approximately 700 patients suffering from dehydration, while the remaining 300 people are undergoing treatment.

Gastro outbreak: Three cases of cholera emerge in Mansehra

Three patients have been diagnosed with cholera, while hundreds of others are suffering from gastroenteritis in different parts of Mansehra district. LANDI KOTAL, Aug 10: Two children died in Khyber Agency after breakout of gastroenteritis in Pasedkhel and Malagori areas of the tribal region.

Locals said that scores of people were admitted to hospital and private clinics after breakout of the disease few days ago. They said that the epidemic claimed lives of two children the other day.

They said that Medicine Sans Frontiers, an international organisation of doctors, had set up a diarrhoea treatment centre at the emergency ward of district headquarters hospital after breakout of gastroenteritis in the two villages of Balambat tehsil a week ago.

Eight die due to gastroenteritis in Badin

BADIN: Following the heavy downpour, several villages remain inundated in Badin, Geo News reported. Eight, including seven children died in the district due to gastroenteritis.

According to civil surgeon Dr Moosa Memon, there has been a sharp rise in the number of gastroenteritis cases and other water borne diseases are also spreading rapidly.

Two die of gastroenteritis in Khuzdar

QUETTA: Two more victims of gastroenteritis, including a child and woman, died in Khuzdar, about 300 kilometers from Quetta, on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 10 during the last 10 days. Around 60 patients, suffering from gastroenteritis, have been admitted to hospitals in Khuzdar, doctors said. The dead have been identified as Asia, 12, and Naseema Bibi, residents of Gharuk area in tehsil Naal of district Khuzdar, a remote area in the district, which lack basic infrastructure.

An outbreak of diarrhoea in the Sherwan area of Abbottabad district has killed six people including a woman, while several others have been admitted to Ayub Medical Complex, District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Abbottabad and various other hospitals, doctors said.

With the monsoon season in full swing, the number of patients suffering with acute watery diarrhoea from different parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Kurram Agency have increased since July, said a press release issued by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Thursday.

As of September 4, more than 5,400 patients have been treated.

It has been observed that the treatment centre at Mingora has seen the highest number of patients in the entire province, with an average of 200 patients visiting the centre every day.

The number of cases increased sharply over the course of a week in late August, rising from 73 patients per day to 270 patients per day. About 25 per cent of these were children under five years of age.

(10 hours ago) TodayLANDI KOTAL, Sept 18: At least seven children have died of gastroenteritis in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency, sources said on Sunday.

Information gathered from Maidan area, where the deaths occurred, said the area had no official healthcare facility to treat gastro related ailments and the people were compelled to take the patients to hospitals in Jamrud and Peshawar.

The residents said most of the time the patients died on the way to hospital in cities. They demanded of the Khyber Agency administration to immediately dispatch health teams and necessary medicines to the area to check the spread of the disease.
