A Pakistani police officer was killed on Friday after gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team in the city of Chaman, located in the southwestern province of Balochistan. The attack marks another violent episode in the ongoing struggle to protect healthcare workers in one of the last countries where polio remains endemic.

The Incident in Chaman According to Habib Ahmed, the Deputy Police Commissioner of Chaman, unidentified militants targeted the vaccination team while they were performing their duties. The police officer, who was assigned to provide security for the health workers, died from his injuries following the exchange. Fortunately, the rest of the vaccination team escaped the attack unharmed.

Following the shooting, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. Security measures have been tightened across the region to prevent further assaults on public health initiatives.​..

A police constable was martyred on Tuesday while guarding a polio vaccination team in the T&T Colony area of Balochistan's Dera Murad Jamali.

Nasirabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asad Nasar told The Express Tribune that the incident occurred when the polio team entered a house to administer drops to children. Constable Farman Bashir Behrani was standing guard outside when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He died on the spot, while the attackers fled immediately afterwards.

SSP Nasar said the police arrived shortly after the incident, moved the body to Civil Hospital Dera Murad Jamali and launched a search operation after cordoning off the area.

Nasirabad Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Karar and SSP Nasar visited the hospital soon after the attack. Nasar described the killing as an "act of terrorism" and said the police were investigating the matter from all angles.​..

KP Reports Two New Polio Cases, Pakistan Tally Hits Three

​Two fresh cases of Polio have been detected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the National Institute of Health confirmed on Friday.

Health officials said the new infections were reported from Bannu and North Waziristan, involving a five-month-old baby and a two-year-old girl. The first case of the year had earlier emerged in Sujawal.

The National Emergency Operations Centre announced that a targeted anti-polio campaign will be rolled out in selected districts later this month, aiming to vaccinate nearly 19 million children.

Pakistan recorded 31 cases in 2025, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the worst-hit region, followed by Sindh, while isolated cases were reported in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.​..

PESHAWAR: At least two police personnel were martyred in separate attacks targeting polio vaccination teams in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district on Monday, police officials confirmed.

According to a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), unidentified assailants opened fire on security personnel assigned to protect anti-polio teams in the Tabbai and Dag Qila areas of Salarzai tehsil.

The martyred policemen were identified as Qadir and Aziz.

Police officials said the attackers fled the scene after the assaults, while security forces launched a search operation in the area to trace the militants involved.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the attacks and sought a detailed report from the provincial inspector general of police.​..​
