An alarming surge being witnessed in measles cases as the decease claimed lives of three more children in village Daiwoo Ki Wanda of Garhi Yasin in Sindh during the last three days, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The dead children were later identified as Amina who was six years old, Abdul Rahim four and Zeenab was three years old.

Due to unavailability of anti-measles vaccines, more children become sick.​..

Two more children died due to measles in village Habibkot area of Shikarpur taking the death toll to six during the last one month, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Heirs of the deceased children said that the disease is spreading in the area speedily.

The dead children were later identified as Usman who was 4-year-old while Laraib Mehar was only 3.​..

KARACHI – The measles outbreak has worsened in Sindh as 17 children died and over 1,100 others got infected in two months.

Experts attribute the rising measles cases to parental negligence and lack of immunization. The outbreak has reached an alarming level in Sindh.

According to the Health Department, from January 1 to March 8 this year, more than 1,100 children have been infected with measles, while 17 have died due to complications. Karachi reported 550 cases, while 10 children died in Khairpur, five in District East, and one each in Sukkur and Jacobabad.​..

Measles outbreak in Sindh kills 17 children in two months

The Sindh Health Department confirmed that the measles outbreak has claimed 17 lives in the past two months in the province with over 1,100 cases have been reported from January 1 to March 8 across the province.

The highest number of deaths occurred in Khairpur district, where 10 children lost their lives, while Karachi reported 550 cases, with five deaths in the East district. Meanwhile, Sukkur and Jacobabad recorded one fatality each.

In Khairpur, the outbreak turned deadly within days, as seven children died in just 48 hours.

Doctors stated the main cause of these deaths is low vaccination rates and lack of awareness. Despite being preventable, many children remain unvaccinated, making them vulnerable to severe complications.

Hospital officials report 4 to 6 new cases daily, mostly among children under five. Some have also been hospitalized with pneumonia, a dangerous complication of measles.

Earlier to this, a sharp rise in measles cases has been reported in Sindh, with over 2,000 cases documented this year, including 900 in Karachi alone, according to the Sindh Health Department.

Government hospitals in Karachi are recording four to six new cases daily, with most patients being children under five. Some children have also been hospitalized with pneumonia caused by measles, officials said.​..
