QUETTA: Another case of poliovirus has been detected in Balochistan as the number of polio cases continues to increase in the province due to suspension of vaccination campaign because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new victim of the crippling disease is a 15-month-old child from Pishin district.

According to the health department’s officials, samples of the child were collected on Aug 19 and 20.

They said the parents of the affected child had refused to get their child vaccinated when polio teams visited their home during anti-polio campaigns.

Vaccination campaigns in Balochistan have been suspended for five months, causing a sudden increase in polio cases in the province.

With this new case, the number of polio cases in Balochistan has risen to 18 this year.

Last year, 12 cases of polio were reported in the province.

The countrywide tally of the crippling disease’s cases for the current year has reached 69...

QUETTA: Another case of polio was found in Balochistan on Thursday, showing that the number of poliovirus cases in the province continues to grow due to the suspension of the vaccination campaign because of the coronavirus crisis.
The new victim of the crippling disease is a 152month-old child from Qila Saifullah.
With this new case, the number of polio cases in Balochistan has risen to 19 this year. Last year, 12 cases of polio were reported in the province.
The countrywide tally of the crippling disease’s cases for the current year has reached 69.​..

On Friday, a new polio case has been reported in Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur East tehsil.

According to the details, the provincial tally reached 10 after a new polio case has been registered. As per the health officials, the neck, legs, hands, and face of the child have been affected by the poliovirus.

This is the second polio case in Punjab reported this year, whereas, the total count across the country reached 74...

BAHAWALPUR: Another poliovirus case has surfaced in the district as an eight-month-old baby in the Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur has been declared carrying the virus.

The infant, identified as Hassan Noor, belongs to Union Council Banwala of tehsil Ahmedpur East.

This is the second polio case that has appeared in the district in the ongoing month. Earlier, a fifteen year old boy was confirmed carrying the poliovirus and his left leg was affected. He too belonged to Ahmedpur East, from its union council Kulab...

A spike in the number of polio cases in Pakistan — the last refuge of the virus in the world along with neighbouring Afghanistan — is being attributed by health experts to disruption in vaccination services caused by lockdowns and restrictions against spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The increase in polio cases could result in the global export of infections and healthcare authorities must intensify efforts to track and vaccinate unvaccinated children, says Misbahud Din, researcher in molecular biology and immunology at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and lead author of a study, published October online in Public Health, on polio vaccination disruptions due to COVID-19 in Pakistan.

Din tells SciDev.Net that "80 cases of wild polio virus (WPV) and 64 cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) have been reported in 2020"...

The victim is a child of over three years from Layyah, Punjab. According to officials, the virus has affected both the hands and feet of the child.

According to official record, 22 cases each have been reported from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 14 from Punjab.

QUETTA: Balochistan on Saturday reported another polio case, taking the provincial tally of the year to 25 and the countrywide count to 83.

According to the provincial health department, a 16-month old boy in the Qilla Abdullah district tested positive for the virus.

Last year, 147 cases had been reported in the country against only 12 cases in 2018...

Balochistan reports a new polio case amid COVID-19 outbreak

Balochistan: Balochistan reported a new case of polio on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases in the province to 26, amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Citing Pakistan’s health officials, SAMAA TV reported that the victim was a 14-month-old girl origin from Union Council Karez Noth in Mastung and her samples were sent to Islamabad for testing on December 5.

The girl had not received the polio vaccine as her family refused polio drops during campaigns.

Balochistan has the highest number of polio cases in Pakistan.

There are 22 polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, and 14 in Punjab. However, Islamabad, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), and Occupied Gilgit-Baltistan have not reported any cases so far.

This year, a total of 84 cases of the wild poliovirus have been recorded in Pakistan. There are also 83 cases of vaccine-derived polio-also known as cVDPV2 polio, SAMAA TV reported.
