PESHAWAR: For the first time in 16 years, the number of polio cases reported in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) has reached 150 as four more cases were confirmed.

Late on Wednesday night, the National Institute of Health in Islamabad confirmed diagnosis of two new cases in Khyber Agency, bringing the total number of cases in Pakistan to 231. Two other cases were confirmed are from Peshawar...

PESHAWAR: A new case of wild poliovirus type-1 surfaced in Khyber Agency, bringing the total number of those diagnosed with the crippling disease to 236 this year.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad confirmed the case late Friday night. The victim is 11-month-old Rafia, the daughter of Idrees from Mera Aka Khel village, Bara tehsil. It was reported Rafia has not received a single dose of vaccine as yet.

With less than two months till year end, Rafia?s case takes the total to 236?143 more cases than 2013. Of these, 152 are from Fata, 48 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 23 from Sindh, 3 from Punjab and 10 from Balochistan..

KHAR: Three personnel of Levies Force were killed when a roadside bomb blast hit their vehicle in Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday. Two other soldiers and an administration official suffered critical injuries.

Officials said the Levies personnel along with Political Naib Tehsildar Sahib Zada Khan were patrolling the area as part of security arrangements for the ongoing polio campaign when they came under attack in Chargoo area, 19km from here...

Karachi: Another child in Sindh was diagnosed with crippling polio virus, enhancing the total number of polio cases in the current year to 24 while the total number of children affected by the polio virus swelled to 238 in whole of Pakistan.

Islamabad - Five new polio cases on Wednesday raised the polio case count to 243. The cases have appeared from Mardan (1), Killa Abdullah (1), Karachi (1), and Khyber Agency (2). Out of total 243 polio cases this year, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has reported 155 cases, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 49, Sindh, 25, Punjab, 03, and Balochistan, 11. Meanwhile, Ayesha Raza Farooq, the prime minister?s focal person on polio, has expressed sorrow and grief over the tragic incident of martyrdom of three valiant Levies personnel in attack on polio supervisory team in Bajaur Agency and serious injuries to political tehsildars and two Levies personnel...

PESHAWAR:

Three more polio cases were reported from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) on Friday, taking this year?s total to 246.

According to officials of the health department, two infected children belong to Khyber Agency, while one child is from South Waziristan Agency. However, the details of the children could not be ascertained till this report was filed...

ISLAMABAD: Five news polio cases were reported from different areas of the country, pushing the tally to 253 cases in current year.

According to Ministry of Health sources, the new cases were reported from Karachi in Sindh, Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, South Waziristan and Khyber Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Qilla Abdullah in Balochistan.

So far 22 cases have been reported from Karachi in 2014, 161 from FATA and 49 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa...

SHABQADAR: The perils of taking part in the polio vaccination campaign were exposed once again on Monday as a worker was injured in a drive-by shooting in Shabqadar, while his friend narrowly escaped.

Area in charge of the polio campaign, Asif Khan, said he and fellow 10th grade student Sajid Khan were checking on polio teams in UC Katozai near Sadar Ghari Afghan refugee camp in Munda. He added two unidentified motorcyclists arrived at the spot and started firing at them. Asif managed to narrowly escape, but Sajid was less fortunate and suffered severe injuries. ?I took shelter at a house nearby with another lady worker,? said Asif...
