Authorities fear outbreak of water borne diseases in worst affected areas in north eastern Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD

A total of 233 people have died in floods in Pakistan since last Thursday, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a state-owned organization that coordinates relief and rescue agencies.

Lahore, the country?s second largest city, has been the worst-affected with 77 deaths in rain related accidents, mostly from roofs collapsing.

Sixty-nine people died in torrential rain and flashfloods in different parts of Pakistani-administered Kashmir.

Pakistan floods claim over 250 people, hospitals struggling to cope with disaster

The toll in Pakistan floods has risen to 257 on Thursday even as troops with helicopters and boats have evacuated 4,000 more people marooned in the raging monsoon floods.

On Thursday, the Pakistan military expanded its relief operations in eastern Punjab province where the overflowing Chenab river is causing extensive damage.

Some half a million people have been affected by the floods in Pakistan and large tracts of farmland have been inundated.

currents are penetrating into upper parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave
is prevailing over northern parts of the country?.
As per the report of NDMA dated 11th
September, 2014, Monsoon rains have affected
1,919,793 individuals caused 264 deaths and 484 people got injured in AJK,
Punjab and GB. As per UNOCH report of 11th September, the authorities expect
an estimated 3 million people to be affected by the floods in the coming days.
PRCS is alert and responding in all the provinces. Rapid Assessment Team of
NDRT has been deployed to different affected districts of Punjab, AJK and GB to
access the situation and share recommendations for interventions.
Relief assistance (emergency shelter and non food items) is already being started
to be distributed to most affected families in district Bagh, AJK, Punjab and
GB.
Keeping in view the initial findings and situation PRCS is going to support initially
5000 families with food, non food and health.

At least 274 people have been killed and over two million affected in massive flooding triggered by heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan, officials said on Saturday.
The rains lashed vast areas of the country last week and since have stopped but the floods triggered by the heavy showers are still out of control.
Reema Zubari of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said in a statement that 194 people have been killed in Punjab, 66 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and another 14 in Gilgit-Baltistan region.
